BERGHS STUDENTS WIN FUTURE LIONS IN CANNES

As Future Lions celebrated its 20th anniversary of honoring the world’s most innovative young creatives, a student team from Berghs School of Communication was named one of four winners worldwide. On stage at the Lumière Theatre in Cannes, the team was recognized for their forward-thinking concept SkinID—an idea that fuses technology, simplicity, and human insight in a powerful way.

Hosted by AKQA, in collaboration with The Wall Street Journal, Future Lions draws thousands of entries each year from more than 240 schools around the globe. The brief challenges students to connect an audience with a product or service in a way that wasn’t possible just three years ago—by using technology in an original and unexpected way. This year’s brief returned to an open format, inviting students to solve a problem they genuinely care about. Ideally, a solution that brings about small-scale change with a big impact.

Berghs students Saga Lind, Alice Sävman, and Erik Arthursson had their submission selected as one of the four most innovative entries among thousands. Their project, SkinID, repurposes Apple’s existing Face ID technology to identify potentially harmful skin changes—without requiring any change in user behavior.

“Apple felt like an obvious choice. The brand already stands for health and innovation, and Face ID gave us an existing technology we could use in a new way. We identified an everyday problem that many people can relate to and solved it without placing any demands on the user. Our idea is incredibly easy to understand—and even easier to use. We think that’s a big part of why we won,” says the team behind the concept.

“This idea proves that great communication begins in people’s everyday lives and how they use technology.Being named one of the winners in Cannes is an incredible honor—and the fact that this year’s winning team consists of first-year students speaks volumes about both their creative talent and the social relevance of their work,” says Camilla Wallander, CEO of Berghs School of Communication.
