Chalmers Ventures följdinvesterar i deeptech-bolaget Glenntex - återvinner plast med grafen

Glenntext är en spin-out från Chalmers tekniska högskola och bygger på forskning genom Govin Induchoodan, PhD och VD på Glenntex. Bolaget har sedan 2021 varit en del av portföljen hos Chalmers Ventures som nu följdinvesterar. Pengarna ska användas för att fokusera på affärsutveckling.

Genom att lägga till grafen i återvinningsprocessen så återfår återvunnen plast sitt värde. Det skapar också en potentiell ny marknad. Glenntex lösning ger en starkare plast, vilket möjliggör att använda mindre material. Genom Glenntex additiv, kan tex mer återvunnen plast användas i applikationer där det tidigare inte varit möjligt. En klimatsmart lösning med bra affärspotential. Nu behöver bolaget utvecklas på marknaden och vi ser fram mot att följa Glenntex resa.

Hållbarhet genom återvinning, affärer och grafen
Sedan 1950-talet har världen blivit beroende av plastindustrin. Något som resulterat i en plastkris. Glenntex hjälper plastindustrin att ställa om från en linjär till en cirkulär ekonomi.

Plast går att återvinna. Men när man återvinner plast blir den svagare. Därför används återvunnen plast sällan i högpresterande applikationer eftersom den är för svag jämfört med ny plast. Det är en av orsakerna till att vi bara återvinner 33% av plast i Europa. Glenntex lösning ger en starkare plast, vilket möjliggör att i samma produkt kan man använda mindre material. Genom Glenntex tillsats, kan mer återvunnen plast användas i applikationer där det tidigare inte varit möjligt.

Lösningen stavas grafen
Grafen är ett 2D-material som en gång kallades för ett 'undermaterial' och upptäcktes 2004. Grafen är starkare än stål, men ändå lättare än något annat material.

Glenntex utvecklar en tillsats av grafen för plastindustrin som blandas med återvunnen plast. Tillsatsen ger plasten grafenets fördelar samtidigt som processen minskar CO2-utsläppen med 60%. Mer återvinning, minskade utsläpp och högre kvalitet i materialet.

- Cirkularitet i material är helt avgörande för vår planet, säger Govin Induchoodan, VD Glenntex. Ett material som är särskilt utmanande är plast. Detta eftersom plastens egenskaper blir markant sämre efter återvinning. Vår grafenblandning återställer styrkan och kvalitén och sätter återvunnen plast på marknaden igen.

Flera intressanta marknader
Det finns flera potentiella marknader som bland annat förpackningar inom livsmedel. Lösningen kan också användas inom industrin för att kraftigt förstärka slangar och behållare där det ställs stora krav på materialets kvalitet.

Sustainability through recycling, business, and graphene
Since the 1950s, the world has become dependent on the plastics industry, resulting in a plastic crisis. Glenntex helps the plastics industry transition from a linear to a circular economy.

Plastic can be recycled, but it becomes weaker during the process. Therefore, recycled plastic is rarely used in high-performance applications because it is too weak compared to new plastic. This is one of the reasons why only 33% of plastic is recycled in Europe. Glenntex's solution produces stronger plastic, allowing for less material usage in the same product. Through Glenntex's additive, more recycled plastic can be used in applications where it was previously not possible.

The solution: graphene
Graphene is a 2D material once dubbed a "super material," discovered in 2004. It is stronger than steel yet lighter than any other material.

Glenntex develops a graphene additive for the plastics industry, which is mixed with recycled plastic.

The additive imparts graphene's advantages to the plastic while reducing CO2 emissions by 60%. More recycling, reduced emissions, and higher quality material.

Multiple interesting markets
There are several potential markets, including food packaging. The solution can also be used in industry to significantly reinforce hoses and containers where high material quality is required.
