Chemrec Selected Top Renewable Energy Company

Chemrec AB, the fuels-from-the-forest biorefinery company, announced that it has been recognized again in 2009 as a renewable energy technology leader by prestigious cleantech organizations.

Chemrec was named a GoingGreen Top 100 winner by AlwaysOn - signifying major developments in the creation of new business opportunities in the green technology industries - and a Global CleanTech 100 company by The Guardian, a London-based media group. GoingGreen winners were selected by the AlwaysOn editorial team and industry experts spanning the globe based on a set of five criteria: innovation, market potential, commercialization, stakeholder value, and media buzz. Global CleanTech 100 companies were selected by a judging panel comprised of major exchanges, advisory groups, industry leaders, financiers and venture firms.

The Chemrec process uses an existing waste stream of the pulp mill process called black liquor, which its biorefineries convert into various biofuels, including dimethyl ether (DME), methanol, ethanol and other motor fuels. In various studies, motor fuels produced by this process result in significant reductions in greenhouse gases, soot and other emissions and use non-foodstock and non-farm acreage resources for their production.

"The Chemrec process is set to revolutionize the economics of pulp mills by transforming them into biorefineries that produce carbon-neutral motor fuels having high energy value and affordability," said Chemrec CEO Richard J. LeBlanc. "Such a biorefinery plant can also be configured to produce green chemicals to help manufacturers meet their environmental and sustainability objectives. We are pleased to be recognized by these fine cleantech organizations."
