Special episode of the ‘Young Minds’ podcast — young innovators discussing technology and sustainability with Sarah Maston, founder of Project 15 from Microsoft

How are technology and sustainability connected? Sarah Maston, from Microsoft, talks to Children’s Climate Prize winner, Reshma Kosaraju, and Kate Gilman, founder of Club 15 from Kids Can Save Animals about sustainability solutions from a tech perspective.The episode is hosted by Luca Berardi from WWF Youth, and all episodes of the ‘Young Minds’ podcast are available on Spotify, Itunes, etc.

New technology, industrial robots, artificial intelligence and machine learning: everything is speeding ahead. In this special episode of the ‘Young Minds’ podcast, the focus is on technology and how the young innovators Reshma Kosaraju and Kate Gilman Williams are actively using it as a tool in their projects. Sarah Maston from Microsoft, a senior program manager for Azure Sphere, founder of Project 15 from Microsoft, and an enabler in this area, also participated. She has realized that competence and solutions on the commercial market can be applied to scientific projects. The episode also discusses how technology is applied, and how the developments, challenges and hopes for the future looks like.

About Reshma Kosaraju
The winner of the 2021 Children’s Climate Prize is 15-year-old Reshma Kosaraju from Saratoga, California, USA. She started the AI against Forest Fires project, a model that can accurately predict almost 90% of all forest fires with data such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, soil moisture and human behavior. All of the data in the model is easily obtained from automatic meteorological stations that are located all over the world and continuously collect data in an open-source code. About Kate Gilman Williams
After learning how wildlife is threatened by extinction, 11-year-old Kate Gilman became determined to raise awareness about this among young people. Kate is CEO of Kids Can Save Animals and the founder of Club 15, which pedagogically links young people with researchers and technical experts. Kate enlisted the help of Project 15 and Sarah Maston from Microsoft to further develop the platform and find new areas of application. Read more about Kate’s project here>>

About Sarah Maston
Sarah Maston is a senior program manager for Azure Sphere at Microsoft and a solution architect that specializes in process architecture and architecture for data solutions. She is the founder of Project 15 from Microsoft and inventor of Project Edison, a solution accelerator for safety for schools and workplaces, for which she won the Microsoft Polaris Award. Young Minds, a podcast from Children’s Climate Prize

Get the latest from young people who are actively working toward sustainability in different ways. The podcast is hosted by 18-year-old Luca Berardi from WWF Sweden Youth, a finalist himself for the 2016 Children’s Climate Prize. The Young Minds podcast is produced by the Children’s Climate Prize with support from the founder of the prize, Telge Energi. The discussion topics include everything from sustainable technology and litigation to the magic of the rainforest. The Children’s Climate Prize is an international prize annually awarded to young people who have made extraordinary efforts for the climate and environment. The award and financial support are managed by the Children’s Climate Foundation, which was initiated by the award’s founder Telge Energi. Based on Telge Energi’s belief in young people’s ability to drive change in the world, the award is now a part of their ongoing work for sustainable development and production of renewable energy in Sweden. The winners of the prize are celebrated at an award ceremony in November each year and receive a diploma, medal and prize money of SEK 100,000 to continue developing their projects.
