UN representative takes seat on jury for Children's Climate Prize

Sam Barratt is head of the Education, Youth and Advocacy Unit in the United Nations Environment Programme’s (UNEP) Ecosystem Division. Previously, Sam worked as Chief of Public Advocacy for UNEP where he was responsible for all global campaigns on issues related to air quality and marine litter. This year, Sam takes a seat in the jury for the Children's Climate Prize, who meets digitally this week to select the two winners of 2020.

"Young people have the key ingredients of thinking big and bold as well as a never-ending supply of tenacity to make things happen. The Children's Climate Prize is a brilliant initiative to show-case the kinds of ideas the world needs to reshape our shared future." -Sam Barratt

Sam Barratt is also responsible for the Playing for the Planet Alliance initiative, a collaboration with the gaming industry aimed at supporting the global environmental agenda by changing player behaviour and the industry's energy use. He also oversees the Youth and Education Alliance (YEA!), a network of about 800 universities from around the world. Johan Kuylenstierna, Vice-President of the Climate Policy Council, is chairman of the Children's Climate Prize jury and is very pleased that Sam Barrat is participating in this year's jury work.

"When it comes to international prizes and awards, it is important to have an outlook on the world and Sam Barratt's knowledge, competence and international eye for climate and environmental issues will be a strong addition to the jury for the Children's Climate Prize 2020”.

The independent jury is appointed by the Children’s Climate Foundation each year to select the winners of the Children's Climate Prize. The jury meeting takes place last week of September and shortly afterwards the selected finalists are presented. Who will eventually be the two winners will be revealed in the first week of November. In the selection process the founder Telge Energi and the prize partner Blueair, play a key role by actively participating in the jury process with representatives in the jury advisory council. Based on their separate core issues and expertise concerning renewable energy, sustainability and everyone's right to clean air, they make a pre assessment of all nominations received during the year.

The prize is founded by Telge Energi, the Swedish frontrunner in renewable energy, and it is they, in partnership with Blueair, a world-leader in air purification, that are behind the award.
