ChromoGenics Accelerates Technology Development – Johan Mathiasson Appointed New CTO
ChromoGenics AB is taking the next step in the evolution of ConverLight® dynamic glass by appointing Johan Mathiasson as its new Chief Technology Officer. With a solid background in advanced materials technology and industrial production, Johan will lead the company’s efforts to scale and industrialize its processes to meet rapidly growing market demand.
From Hard Drive Wires to F1 Cars – and Now Dynamic Glass
Johan is a materials scientist with an MSc in Engineering and extensive experience from companies such as Sandvik, Solibro (First Solar), and Erasteel. Over the years, he has worked with everything from solar cell technology to high-performance steel structures for Formula 1 cars and aircraft.
“I want to work on things that truly matter and make an impact. ChromoGenics has a strong product with great potential for further development,” says Johan Mathiasson.
Greger Gregard Hands Over the CTO Role
After many years as the driving force behind ChromoGenics’ technology development, Greger Gregard is handing over the CTO role to Johan Mathiasson and moving on to new challenges. In parallel, he will remain connected as part of ChromoGenics’ technical advisory board together with other founders.
“Building this technology from the ground up has been a fantastic journey. Now it feels absolutely right to hand over to Johan. ChromoGenics is in a strong position, and I look forward to following the next phase,” says Greger Gregard.
CEO Fredrik Fränding welcomes the transition
“Johan’s experience and drive give us the momentum to quickly take the next step in our technology development and seize market opportunities. His track record in scaling advanced manufacturing and technology is a major asset. By staying connected with Greger through our technical advisory board, we can ensure that the knowledge and innovative spirit that built ChromoGenics from the very beginning continue to inspire our work. This strengthens our ability to deliver what customers, property owners, and the construction industry demand: high-performing, sustainable solutions that make a real difference for people and the climate.”
“Anything Other Than Dynamic Glass Is Just a Compromise”
For Johan, the choice of technology is clear:
“There’s a reason windows were invented – to see outside and let in light. And yet people block them with blinds and screens. Anything other than dynamic glass is just a compromise. Now I have the opportunity to help make this technology accessible to more people.”
Technical Advantages That Are Hard to Beat
Looking ahead, Johan will focus on enhancing both the performance and scalability of ChromoGenics’ product portfolio. A key strength lies in the company’s in-house sputtering capability, enabling large-scale production of dynamic foil that can be laminated into glass by local processors worldwide.
“With more than 20 years of experience, ChromoGenics now holds a unique position in the market. It’s difficult for others to catch up, especially since we control so much in-house. On top of that, being Swedish-owned, with short decision-making processes and an agile team, is a real advantage,” says Johan.
