One of 3 Scandinavian countries, Sweden is lush and green with historic culture for all to see and explore. Norway and Denmark are neighbouring countries that all share the northern beauty of Europe. What attracts many tourists are the thousands of lakes and sea sides of about 267 570 of them, and 75 percent of Sweden is covered in Forest. A country that lives and breathes fresh air with large amounts of space and things to do for all ages.

Nature and outdoor activities for all

Sweden is for every type of person with interest in nature, history and outdoor expeditions of all kinds. Winter getaways skiing with the gang by day then warm fires and hot chocolate by night in cabins for a true winter holiday. Or summer vacations hiking through the many forests, or swimming in the lakes with the family on your annual family holiday. Sweden has every type of sport, activity and outdoor playground for everyone at all times of the year.

If anything physical like is not up your alley, and you are more into chilling and having a good time in other ways like music festivals, Sweden has many to choose from. Keeping with the Swedish tradition and having a cultural experience with the locals, is the Midsummer Eve festival that celebrates the longest day of the year over summer with dancing in a field around a pole of wreath. Something to take part in if you like to see how locals do things such as their go to favoured food of Köttbullar – Meatballs.

Birka is the place to be

When you plan to visit Sweden, you wish to see Vikings. How cool would it be to see real vikings and how they used to live? Birka is a town on a lake 30 kilometres west from Stockholm, which you can only travel to by boat that is situated on an island, Lake Mälaren called Björkö.

The first known city known as Birka today, was the trading spot for vikings for the Scandinavian countries. This viking town is frozen in time to showcase a day in the life of a viking from where they slept, how and what they ate and every day tasks. Costumes, artefacts and more are shown to feel like you really are walking through a town of vikings.

A museum in the town of Birka was founded in 1993 as a UNESCO World Heritage.

Thousands of people flock to Birka to see all the incredible findings found in the museum that make this time period memorable and significant.
