New Year’s Eve concert by the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra
Attending a concert played by the famous Prague Philharmonic Orchestra is a stylish way to bid farewell to the year.
Its name might suggest that the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra is a municipal orchestra; nevertheless, it has a worldwide reputation. It releases more than 200 recordings each year and not only in the field of classical music. Musicians from the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra collaborate with famous directors recording music for films and advertisements. Their music has been used on sound tracks accompanying the Indiana Jones trilogy, Jurassic Park and Federico Fellini’s La Dolce Vita.Despite its busy agenda, the Prague Philharmonic Orchestra always finds time to say goodbye to the year with a concert held in Prague, featuring a selection of the best classical music compositions.

Something purely Czech: Cubism in architecture
Join us for a unique exhibition dedicated to Czech cubism. Where else but at one of the most famous cubist buildings in the Czech Republic.
In the center of Prague, a short distance from Old Town Square or Municipal House, stands a building very different from the others. Located on its front side is a black statue of the Virgin Mary. And that’s why this imposing building is called the House of the Black Madonna. What’s so special about it? It is one of the finest examples of a purely Czech invention: cubism in architecture. Its furnishings are also cubist. A unique and long-awaited exhibition dedicated to Czech creativity in this style will open here on 20 November. Furniture, ceramics, posters, graphic designs or selected works of cubist painting by Emil Filla and Josef Čapek and many others will blend in perfectly with the environment. The cubist parts of the House of the Black Madonna will also be a part of the exhibition. The house has a unique café, which, like the rest of the building, was designed by renowned architect Josef Gočár. It remains the only cubist café in the world.

Carnival in Veselý Kopec
A whirl of carnival masks will be on the prowl at the open-air museum in Veselý Kopec, registered by UNESCO.
Come see with your own eyes the traditional carnival processions in Hlinecko, which for several years now have been registered by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. The parade includes all the traditional masks – mottled, the little Missus, Turks, straw, a rat-catcher/healer with a mare, chimney sweeps and Jews. Every costume has its own special mission. For example, it is said that how high jump the four dancing Turks, that’s how high that year’s corn and flax will grow. Meanwhile you can have a look inside the buildings that make up the open-air museum and enjoy a traditional Czech hog roast in the tavern.

Prague Opera Ball
The winter ball season in Prague is in full swing – and the highlight is the Opera Ball.
One of the main Czech social events of the year is the Opera Ball. It doesn’t have the same tradition as its world-famous counterpart in Vienna, but it could already be ranked among those popular events with international participation and significant charitable context. Everyone who wants to be seen goes to the State Opera in Prague on that evening. Moreover, a host of celebrities and high-born personalities receive invitations every year and add a unique luster and prestige to the Opera Ball.
