Smetana Days in Plzeň
The festival of classical music is dominated by classical-romantic repertoire.
Smetana Days has grown into the largest music festival in Plzeň in recent years. The program is devoted to more than the works of its patron, Bedřich Smetana, one of the most important Czech composers. It also includes non-traditional musical projects deviating from the "classics" as well as lectures and films with musical themes. More than 10 concerts will take place under the festival in the Plzeň Burgher Meeting Hall - Měšťanská beseda. The show will also include transmissions from the world's leading opera houses and finals of the international piano competition. The J. K Tyl Theatre will be devoted to child audiences. It boasts a modern new building. The most famous Czech opera The Bartered Bride, written by Bedřich Smetana, can be seen in it regularly throughout the theater season.
