Didriksons launches a digital community for ocean awareness

Didriksons, in partnership with World Ocean Day, is launching Coastal Society, a new digital community designed to make ocean action more accessible. Through a newly launched app, members from around the world can take part in actions, share their progress and inspire one another to make a positive difference for the ocean.

Founded on the belief that no one can do everything, but everyone can do something, Coastal Society makes it easier for people to take action for the ocean. By focusing on small, achievable actions that fit into everyday life, the community demonstrates how collective effort can lead to meaningful change. Because what happens in our ocean affects every living ecosystem on Earth and the health of our planet is inseparable from the health of our seas. Everything is connected.

From protecting fishermen to protecting the ocean

Didriksons was founded on the Swedish west coast in 1913 with a mission to protect fishermen from harsh weather conditions at sea. More than a century later, the relationship with the ocean remains at the heart of the company.

Today, the challenge looks different. Rather than protecting people from the sea, the sea itself increasingly needs protection from human impact.

Coastal Society was created as a response to that reality. It is a free digital space where employees and anyone who cares about the ocean can come together around positive action.

– We know the challenges facing our ocean can feel overwhelming. By making it easier for people to take action together, we hope to create a community that inspires progress rather than perfection, says Fredrik Öhlund, Community Manager at Didriksons.

Small actions, shared impact

Coastal Society presents members with simple actions related to ocean health and environmental awareness. Participants are encouraged to share their experiences within the community, creating a positive cycle of inspiration, learning and collective action. All communication is conducted in English, creating a global meeting place where members can inspire and learn from one another, regardless of where they live.

A partnership with World Ocean Day

To ensure that the community contributes to a larger movement, Coastal Society has been developed in partnership with World Ocean Day, the global organisation working year-round to protect and restore ocean ecosystems through education and community engagement.

Coastal Society will continuously introduce new themes and actions that support and amplify the work carried out through World Ocean Day initiatives around the world.

– We are really excited about Coastal Society and look forward to participating as a partner. The community comes at an important time, when we need to significantly increase awareness and inspire action for our lands, waters and oceans. Over the long term, Coastal Society will play an incredibly important role in increasing knowledge and understanding of the oceans and the threats to their health and productivity by helping people get involved, get outside and take action, says Bill Mott, Executive Director at World Ocean Day.

A community for the future

While Coastal Society is hosted by Didriksons, the ambition extends far beyond the company itself.
The goal is not perfection. It is participation. By bringing people together who care about the ocean but live busy lives, Coastal Society demonstrates how small actions, when multiplied by many, can create meaningful change.

– No one can solve the ocean crisis alone. But together, we can all be part of the solution. Coastal Society is about showing that small actions matter, especially when thousands of people do them together. We believe that creating opportunities for people to engage, inspire one another and take action is an important part of building a better future, concludes Fanny Ekholm, CSR Manager at Didriksons.
