S2 GAMES ANNOUNCE 2010 TOURNAMENT EVENTS

(Kalamazoo, MI) – May 12, 2010 – Independent game developer S2 Games today announced that Heroes of Newerth (HoN) will be featured in several large upcoming tournaments. The announcement comes hours before the release of the game, scheduled for today at 4PM EST. HoN, a session-based, multiplayer, Action-RPG, will be available to purchase for Windows, MAC and Linux for $30USD.

“These announcements solidify HoN’s competitive capability, and this is just the beginning of what is in store for our community. With an active and loyal player base, HoN is working to create a solid foundation of tournament activities,” said Marc DeForest, CEO and Founder, S2 Games. Heroes of Newerth has just shy of three million beta subscribers and is poised to be the number one player in the competitive market with over 60 unique heroes, integrated voice chat for team play, a robust replay system, and a quick reconnect feature.

S2 Games has been honored by having HoN selected as the Official International title for the Shanghai World Expo 2010 “Digital Youth Award.” Qualifiers will be held in six countries around the world. The top team from each of the six countries will win an all expense paid trip to the “2010 World Expo” where teams will compete in exhibition game play.  The six teams will then be awarded a second all expense paid trip to DreamHack Winter 2010 where they will battle it out for $10,000USD. The first of these qualifying events will be held in Singapore at the License2play festival www.licence2play.com.sg/. The Germany and Sweden qualifiers will be held at DreamHack Summer 2010 taking place June 19-22 in Jönköping, Sweden. Additional qualifiers will be held for China, United States, and Malaysia. 

DreamHack Summer 2010 will also play host to a third Heroes of Newerth tournament. There will be an open HoN community event with the largest non-FPS prize purse in DreamHack history of 150,000 SEK as well as great products from SAPPHIRE. The 150,000 SEK prize pool will also be the largest cash prize tournament at the event.

In addition to other announcements made just before launch, SteelSeries and GosuGamers.net announced yesterday that they would be celebrating the launch of HoN and the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup by hosting the SteelSeries HoN World Cup. The cup boasts a whopping $40,000USD prize pool and offers competitive players, casual gamers, replay enthusiasts, and even soccer fans a chance to win some money. There will be five qualifiers in five main regions: Southeast Asia, Eastern Europe, Western Europe and Africa, North and South America, and lastly an Asia, Oceania, and Mixed Qualifier. Shoutcasts and coverage of the tournament will be done by Honcast with renowned eSport caster Toby “TobiWanKenobi” Dawson guest shoutcasting.

World Expo in Shanghai takes place between 1 May and 31 October 2010.
