Designer Maxjenny exhibits at Drottningholms Slottsteater

Autumn brings fashion to Drottningholms Slottsteater. Maxjenny Forslund is a Swedish designer who has been praised for her innovative fusion of art and fashion. Working together with Drottningholms Slottsteater, she has created The Queen of Prints – maxjenny! , an exhibition of printed motifs from the theatre’s scenery, environment and decor. The creations will be on display at the theatre in September and entrance is free.

Drottningholms Slottsteater is over 250 years old and has a unique collection of decor and interiors from the 1700s. It is this imagery on which Maxjenny is to base her exhibition, which will comprise many unique prints and creations.

“It’s an honour for me to interpret the world heritage site of Drottningholms Slottsteater, to bring the 18th Century passion for costume art into the 2020s,” says Maxjenny Forslund. “I love historical environments, sumptuousness, extravaganza and dressmaking. With my special prints, I’ll be paying homage to the world unique theatre and its 18thCentury aesthetic.”

Maxjenny Forslund is a Swedish fashion designer who founded the brand maxjenny! in 2017. She was discovered by star stylist Bea Åkerlund and has had the privilege to design clothes for some famous names, including Madonna in one of her music videos, and Crown Princess Victoria on numerous international royal occasions. With her avant-garde flair, Maxjenny is one of Scandinavia’s most innovative fashion and print designers, working with print on textiles in a way that makes every item unique. She has previously often worked from her own photographs and for this project will be using pictures of the world heritage site of Drottningholms Slottsteater.

Drottningholms Slottsteater has witnessed the changing face of fashion since 1766. It is a unique historical theatre that has remained unaltered since it was first built. The exhibition of designs by maxjenny! will be arranged in the Déjeuner Salon, formerly King Gustav III’s breakfast room and now the theatre’s foyer, with its windows and doors opening out onto the palace grounds and royal park.
