Drottningholms Slottsteater sets its sights on summer 2021

Drottningholms Slottsteater is planning two premieres in 2021, the Baroque opera Agrippina and the family show Beauty and the Beast. Both these productions had to be pushed forward a year by the pandemic, but now the historical theatre is preparing to receive audiences under safer conditions.

The 2020 season put a great deal of strain on Drottningholms Slottsteater and the rest of Sweden’s cultural scene. However, the 250-year-old theatre is now setting its sights on a corona-safe 2021 summer season.

“We really hope that it will be possible to welcome audiences and visitors next summer, and are ready and willing to change our plans should it be necessary,” says managing director Sofi Lerström. “Apart from opera and family shows, we’ll be arranging an exclusive solo concert with the celebrated mezzo soprano Ann Hallenberg, our Artist in Residence, several new thematic tours and much more.”

Safety comes first in the planning of the 2021 season, when performances and tours will admit limited numbers and extra staff will be on hand to prevent crowding. Furthermore, tickets will naturally be refunded in the event of illness or cancellation. The theatre management is keeping a close eye on developments and will adapt activities to whatever new conditions arise.

Drottningholms Slottsteater expects to commence its tour programme by Easter with small groups and big distances as a guarantee of safety. Amongst the season’s offerings will be new thematic tours for the whole family and corona-safe outdoor tours.

More items may be added to the programme before the full season is presented in March.
