Opera screening in Drottningholm Palace Park

Drottningholms Slottsteater’s production of Agrippina will be filmed and publicly screened in Drottningholm Palace Park on 4 September at 4.00 pm. Admission is free and there will be ample space to allow a large audience seated at Covid-safe distances on picnic blankets.

The project to screen Agrippina in the park marks the start of an initiative to record, screen and broadcast future summer opera productions.

“It’s great to be able to bring this fantastic production to a wider audience, especially this year when indoor seating is restricted. We’re looking forward to creating a festive mood in the Palace Park and will be making sure that everyone can keep a distance and have a safe and enjoyable experience,” says managing director Anna Karinsdotter.

The Baroque opera Agrippina by Handel premiered at Drottningholms Slottsteater in the beginning of August. Direction, stage design and costumes are by artistic duo Staffan Valdemar Holm and Bente Lykke Møller. On stage is an ensemble of international stars, including Swedish mezzo-soprano Ann Hallenberg singing the title role. Agrippinawas composed by Handel for the 1710 Venice carnevale with a story is drawn from Ancient Rome.

Agrippina in the Park is free to attend. Audience members are invited to bring their own picnic blankets or camping chairs as there will be no fixed seating. Numbers will be subject to the prevailing restrictions. Agrippina in the Park has been made possible thanks to the generous support of private donors and Friends of Drottningholms Slottsteater, and additional grants from the Ministry of Culture.
