Escape Sofa - Design Mario Ruiz

Det här är en universal sittmöbel som består av tre mjuka moduler i olika former. Tillsammans med ett ryggstöd kan de enkelt konfigureras i oändliga kombinationer för att passa olika behov och ytor, från den lilla lobbyn till den stora mötesplatsen. Escape är tillverkad i Edsbyn utav restmaterial från produktionen, och kan kompletteras med praktiska eluttag för laddning och eleganta bord som diskret fästs i sockeln.

“Escape är ett system av olika moduler som du kan bygga stora eller små öar med. De är utvecklade för att ge människor en plats att dra sig tillbaka till och slappna av för en stunds återhämtning i intensiva miljöer. Vad som framstår som enkla former är i själva verket bland dem svåraste att få fram så att det fungerar både estetiskt och tekniskt. De här modulerna är rektangulära och kvadratiska men ändå mjuka med runda hörn, nästan som släta stenar i en flod, och kan kombineras i oändliga konstellationer. Escape kan länka ihop olika inredningar i en arbets- eller mötesplats. Från enkelt till omfattande kan den sträcka ut sig i korridorer för att sen fylla ut en stor hall, eller skalas ner för ett litet väntrum.

Det känns fantastiskt att få vara en del av ett projekt i ett företag som har så lång historia av möbeldesign som Edsbyn, och som också precis är i början av ett nytt kapitel. Det finns en hög kvalitet i produktionen och materialen. Mario Ruiz (f.1965 Spanien) studerade industridesign vid Elisava Facultad de Diseño e Ingeniería de Barcelona där han även har verkat som professor. Ruiz öppnade sin studio i Barcelona år 1995 och har sedan dess arbetat internationellt och multidisciplinärt inom design. Ruiz arbeten i industri, grafisk och möbeldesign har vunnit flertalet prestigefyllda priser från institutioner som Red Dot Award (DE), Good Design Award (US) och Wallpaper Design Awards (UK). Projekt för globala producenterna Steelcase (US), Haworth (US) och Teknion (CA), har särskilt utmärkt studions kompetens inom design av system- och kontorsmöbler. År 2016 mottog Mario Ruiz Spaniens främsta designpris, Premio Nacional de Diseño, som delas ut av staten och Kung Felipe VI av Spanien.

This is a universal seating furniture that consists of three soft modules in different shapes that together with a backrest easily can be configured in endless combinations to fit any need and space, from the small lobby to the large meeting area. Escape is manufactured in Edsbyn with leftover material from its production, and can be supplemented with convenient electric outlets for charging devices and sleek tables that are discretely connected at the plinth base.

“Escape is a system of different modules that allows you to create big or small islands. They are designed to offer a retreat for people that want to relax, to contemplate away from the stress in a busy atmosphere. What might look like simple shapes are in fact the hardest to achieve so that they work both technically and aesthetically. These modules are square and rectangular with soft, round curves, almost like stones or pebbles found in a river and the combinations you can make with them are endless. From basic to extensive, Escape can stretch out into a corridor and fill up a great hall or scale down in to a small waiting area, connecting different interior zones in a work or meeting space.

It is wonderful to be a part of a project in a company that has such a long history of furniture design as Edsbyn, and which is also just in the beginning of a new chapter. There is a high quality in the production and in the materials. Ruiz work in industrial, graphic and furniture design, has earned him several prestigious awards from institutions such as Red Dot Award (DE), Good Design Award (US) and Wallpaper Design Awards (UK). Projects for the global producers Steelcase (US), Haworth (US) and Teknion (CA), has specifically distinguished the studios skill in designing system- and office furniture. In 2016 Mario Ruiz received the foremost design award in Spain, Premio Nacional de Diseño, which is given by the state and the King of Spain Felipe VI.
