The MEET Chianti Classico Experience invites tourists to enjoy art, music and theatre in the vineyards
2022 will mark the return of tourism to Chianti Classico. In addition to the natural beauty and world class food and wine, visitors will be drawn by the MEET Chianti Classico Experience: contemporary art exhibitions spread across the region, classical music concerts in the cellars and modern theatre performances in the piazzas. The programme is conceived and delivered by the Chianti Classico Wine Consortium with the aim to help enrich even further the cultural offering of one of the most beloved and visited terroirs in the world. All events can be found at chianticlassico.com/en/
This summer, visitors can enjoy classical music concerts in the cellars. Discover the MEET Chianti Classico programme at www.chianticlassico.com/en/
MEET Art: Seven works of art spread across seven villages in the Chianti Classico region. The pieces will be illustrated on a ‘canvas’ designed to represent the unique symbiosis that exists in Chianti between wine and its territory: a large bottle of Chianti Classico about 4 metres high, on which each artist will leave their unique mark. The artists, involved in this venture by the Consortium curated by TerraMedia Davide Sarchioni, Fiammetta Poggi and Isaco Praxolu, make up a balanced team of up-and-coming artists and established names; interpreters of innovative and highly topical languages and means of expression. The following have especially lent their work: Camilla Falsini, Clet, Thomas Lange, Numero Cromatico, Francesco Bruni, Eliseo Sonnino, and Corn79.
The works will be distributed across the region to create a widespread, itinerant exhibition - one that’s easily accessible to members of the public of all ages. The exhibition, entitled A(rt) Message in a (Chianti Classico) Bottle, will interact with the incumbent works of art in some wine cellars and with those installed by the local governments in S. Casciano Val di Pesa, Greve in Chianti, and Barberino Tavernelle as part of the ‘Chiantissimo’ project, thus creating a unique, large, contemporary art circuit throughout the Black Rooster territory.
MEET Music: Between 9th July and the end of August, the Chianti landscape will also unite with classical music, performed by the extraordinary students of the Accademia Musicale Chigiana. Thanks to an agreement between the Consortium and the world famous Sienese institution of higher musical education, some Chianti Classico wineries will host a special line-up of musical events at the Chigiana International Festival and Summer Academy 2022.
Performances by young talents - already on the path to an international concert career - will be preceded by tastings of wine and local produce in evenings where food, wine and musical culture will combine to bring together people from all over the world.
MEET Theatre: In order to offer our audience a wide range of experiences related to multiple art forms, Meet Chianti Classico Experience will also stage diVINUM, a theatre show dedicated to wine and designed to overcome the language barrier through a spectacle that will be accessible to all languages and foreign spectators. The dramaturgical style will be that of the Contemporary Circus, shaped by a director who will narrate through various disciplines, such as street theatre (fire, stils, and acrobatics), theatre and dance, video projection, and music. The show, produced by the Arca Azzura Association of San Casciano in Val di Pesa and supported by the Consortium, will travel across the region with repeat performances in several different Chianti piazzas during the summer season.
“We wanted to further enhance the experience of a visitor who has always associated our territory with the wine produced here,” says Giovanni Manetti, President of the Consorzio Vino Chianti Classico. “The playbill was designed to merge artists from all over the world with the best local talents in a fusion that represents the openness that this area has always had when welcoming the rest of the world. A vocation that every year brings to our streets thousands of national and international friends attracted by our territory and what it represents: the art of good living.
MEET Chianti Classico: art, music and theatre welcome visitors in the Black Rooster Territory this summer.

About MEET
MEET is an acronym for Magical Experience of European Taste, an educational and promotional initiative for wine and olive oil from Chianti Classico, aimed at Italian, German, French and Swedish marketing. It was presented in May last year to the European Commission and approved under EU regulation no 1144/2014. It’s a three-year programme to increase appreciation of the special nature of wine and olive oil from Chianti Classico, aiming to raise European consumer awareness of the superior taste, the enduring nature, and environmental credentials of high-quality agricultural products, namely the Black Rooster wine and olive oil.
The programme of MEET initiatives will join other events organised by the Chianti Classico municipalities in the musical, theatrical and artistic spheres, resulting in a programme of over 100 initiatives that will be staged throughout the summer. The complete programme can be found on chianticlassico.com.
