Three more EIT Health degree programmes earn EIT Label

'The gold standard'

Three new EIT Health degree programmes joined the two that were already awarded the EIT Label, a certificate of quality for Master and Doctoral programmes that combine excellent scientific education with innovation and entrepreneurship training. EIT-Labelled degrees encourage innovative pedagogies and also incorporate mandatory mobility schemes for students. Graduates of EIT-Labelled degrees form the next generation of health innovators.

The EIT Health Degree Programmes activity line is charged with developing courses that can earn the EIT Label.

As Claire Nassiet, Education and Project Manager of EIT Health France notes in a video interview, the courses developed collaboratively by EIT Health Partners are carefully designed with quality in mind.

“We want to be the gold standard, if you will, of health education,” Nassiet said, explaining that EIT Health Masters programmes provide regular course work, but also much more: “The student will do mobility, in another university. They will do a placement or internship in a company or hospital. They will work on real-life cases provided by partners in the network. They will have entrepreneurship training.”

The new labelled programmes include two Master and one PhD:

  • The Master of Technological Innovation in Health (MTIH) is implemented by five universities led by Sorbonne University. This programme offers a transdisciplinary approach to Biomedical Engineering. MTiH trains a new generation of students in robust entrepreneurship education through an innovative learning-by-doing curriculum. Students work in multidisciplinary teams and learn to combine different technologies to solve real life health problems and to improve the quality of life of European citizens.
  • The Common European Master’s Course in Biomedical Engineering (CEMACUBE) is a Master programme formed by six universities that joined forces to train students in innovation and entrepreneurship in Biomedical Engineering. It is led by the University of Groningen. Industrial experts participate in the programme with guest lectures and offer internships to create cross-organisational mobility. Students work with patients, citizens, medical professionals and industrial companies to create prototypes of medical devices, test them in a real-life setting, create business plans, prepare CE-certification and a patent application.
  • Research, Entrepreneurship Combining Innovation with PhD Education (RECIPE) is a collaborative PhD school led by Uppsala University focusing on antibiotics and antibiotic resistance. Students are educated in a cross-disciplinary environment to accelerate progress in healthcare, through international mobility and close interaction and co-creation with public and private partners.

These new EIT-labelled programmes complement EIT Health existing Master degree programmes. Two courses developed by EIT Health already received the EIT label in 2016:
