Ekomarine receives international Brands with a Conscience award

Swedish company Ekomarine is now a part of the exclusive group of companies who have been rewarded with the Brands with a Conscience award by the The Medinge Group think tank. The company is given the award for its non-toxic antifouling paint Neptune Formula. Previous Swedish award-winners includes Ikea and Hennes & Mauritz.

The Brands with a Conscience award was established in 2002 with the aim of highlighting brands that combine commercial success with social responsibility. The competition for the award has been tough. Ekomarine together with five other companies were selected as examples of how businesses are taking responsibility for the environment not only today but also in the longer term.

"We are very happy to receive this award," said Claes Tarras Ericsson, CEO of Ekomarine. "After years of development and efforts to establish our product on the market, this becomes an incentive for us to pursue our non-toxic antifouling paint for both leisure boats as well as ocean trade."

This is the sixth year in a row The Medinge Group think tank appoints and rewards companies contributing to social improvement through sustainability, social responsibility, and humanism.

"Each of the Brands with a Conscience winners display awareness, responsibility and action," said Patrick Harris, a Medinge director. "Sustainability here is not limited to a temporary green perspective, but is celebrated as a life-long dedication to future generations."

In addition to Ekomarine the Brands with a Conscience award is this year awarded to Indian eco-resort Chhatra Sagar, American microloans donor Kiva, British bottled water producer One, Dutch Ragbag producing clothes from recycled materials, and American TOMS Shoes, donating children's shoes to developing countries.

The Brands with a Conscience award will be given to the winners at a ceremony in Paris, February 5th.
