Elonroad and NTU Singapore partner to advance smart charging technologies for sustainable mobility

Swedish deep-tech company Elonroad, a pioneer in electric road charging solutions, has entered into a research collaboration with Nanyang Technological University, Singapore (NTU Singapore) through its Energy Research Institute. The partnership aims to develop, test, and validate Elonroad’s automatic charging technology to accelerate Singapore’s transition toward smarter, safer, and more sustainable transport systems.

The collaboration was formalized in October during a visit to the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N) in Singapore, organized and supported by Business Sweden. The joint project focuses on opportunity charging using Elonroad’s conductive charge rails, an innovative system that allows vehicles to charge automatically and efficiently without manual plug-ins. This technology reduces downtime, enhances safety, and supports the electrification of heavy-duty and logistics fleets.

The partnership supports Singapore’s ambition to strengthen local research and testing capabilities in electrification and smart mobility and aims to assess how Elonroad’s automatic charging solution can boost energy efficiency and optimize fleet operations in urban environments.

Testing and validation will take place at ERI@N’s Electrification and Power Grids Centre, referencing international standards such as IEC 61851-23 and Singapore’s TR25. The goal is to adapt and refine Elonroad’s solution to support the development of reliable, scalable charging infrastructure across Singapore.

“At Elonroad, we believe in the triple helix model – collaboration between academia, industry, and the public sector – because systemic transformation can only happen when all three come together. The energy transition will require nothing less,” said Karin Ebbinghaus, CEO of Elonroad.

This milestone builds upon the strong ties between Sweden and Singapore, reinforced during the state visit of His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden to Singapore in November 2023. It also reflects the continued cooperation between Swedish and Singaporean innovation ecosystems, supported by Vinnova, Business Sweden, and the Embassy of Sweden in Singapore.

“NTU Singapore is committed to advancing research that drives real-world impact and supports Singapore’s transition towards a sustainable energy future,” said Professor Madhavi Srinivasan, Executive Director of the Energy Research Institute @ NTU (ERI@N). “Through this collaboration with Elonroad, we are extending NTU’s efforts in electrification and mobility innovation, enabling the development of scalable, real-world solutions that support a cleaner and more efficient transport future.”

Together, Elonroad and NTU are driving forward the electrification of transport, combining Swedish innovation and Singaporean research excellence to enable a sustainable, more connected future.
