The Norwegian adventure epic Kon Tiki and the Danish A Royal Affair will battle for the coveted Oscar

Two of Film i Väst’s co-productions are nominated for the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar. Nikolaj Arcel’s A Royal Affair and Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning’s Kon Tiki will be competing for the prestigious award at the 85^th Academy Awards, February 24^th 2013.

“It’s magnificent, this has never happened before in Film i Väst’s history [that two films receive Academy Award nominations in the same year]. We are incredibly proud of the films and to have been involved in them. An enormous congratulations to both productions,” said Jessica Ask, Film i Väst’s Head of Production.

A Royal Affair, starring Mads Mikkelsen and Alicia Wikander, premiered in Official Competition at the Berlin International Film Festival in 2012 and took home two Silver Bears- Best Screenplay (Nikolaj Arcel & Rasmus Heisterberg) and Best Male Actor (Mikkel Boe Følsgaard). The film is also nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globe Awards and to date it has surpassed 1 million admissions globally, has broken box office records in the UK and Australia, and has sold to 78 territories. A Royal Affair is produced by Zentropa Entertainments28 in co-production with Zentropa International Sweden and Film i Väst among others. A large part of the film’s post production was completed in Western Sweden. A Royal Affair had its Swedish premier April 13^th, 2012, distributed by Nordisk Film.

Nearly 1 million Norwegians have seen Espen Sandberg and Joachim Rønning’s Kon Tiki since its premier in August 2012 and it stands as the biggest and most expensive Norwegian film production to date. The film made its international premier at the Toronto International Film Festival and will also vie for Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globe Awards. Kon Tiki is produced by Roenberg Film and Nordisk Film, in co-production with Filmlance and Film i Väst among others. Kon Tiki will premier in Sweden March 22^nd, 2013, with Nordisk Film distributing.
