Finansförbundet fördömer attacker mot facket i Turkiet

Under januari månad hålls ett antal rättegångar i Turkiet mot fackliga företrädare från centralorganisationen KESK.

De fackliga företrädarna har nyttjat sina mänskliga rättigheter att strejka, demonstrera och uttrycka åsikter om ett förslag om ett nytt utbildningssystem och förändringar i arbetsrätten. Som ett led i att undertrycka facklig verksamhet och yttrandefrihet har den turkiska staten den 13 januari i år ställt drygt 500 fackliga företrädare inför domstol i Ankara.

Rättegången följdes av en internationell delegation för att visa vår solidaritet till våra fackliga kolleger. Den 23 – 25 januari genomförs ytterligare en rättegång mot 27 KESK-medlemmar. Vid rättegången kommer TCO att vara representerad i en internationell delegation som följer förhandlingarna som observatörer.

Finansförbundets ordförande, Ulrika Boëthius har skickat följande brev till turkiets premiärminister Erdogan:

Turkey: Trials against trade unionists

Dear Mr. Prime Minister,

I am writing to strongly condemn the Turkish government’s anti-union attacks as well as the misuse of the Turkish legal and judicial system. This misuse obstructs the trade union movement such as the Confederation of Public Sector Workers' Unions (KESK), the ITUC and the ETUC.

The ITUC and the ETUC will join the international trade union delegations attending the court hearings of the legal cases targeting members of KESK during the month of January 2014.

Since 2008 the repression of the trade union movement in Turkey has been increasing and manifested through intimidation, harassment and repression of trade union leaders. Violations against trade union rights in Turkey have regularly been put on the agenda of the annual International Labour Conference in Geneva.

I consequently call your government to fully respect Turkish and international law and abide by the European and international obligations to guarantee human and trade union rights and the freedom of its workers.

I trust your government will act swiftly on these appeals.
