Joris Lacoste regisserar stadens ord i ”Jukebox Gbg” på Folkteatern

När det franska teaterkompaniet l’Encyclopédie de la parole kommer tillbaka till Göteborg låter de sju lokala skådespelare först samla in ord, meningar och samtal som finns runt omkring oss i Göteborg, sedan spela upp dessa små scener för publiken, som är med och väljer vad ur den göteborgska jukeboxen som ska spelas. Regisserar gör Joris Lacoste.

Hur låter staden? Vilka är orden som passerar oss varje dag? Småprat, väderleksrapporter, ömhetsbetygelser, hejarklackar, demonstrationer, reklamjinglar. Alla dessa ord som florerar överallt på en plats runt oss människor. Dessa ska skådespelarna i Jukebox Gbg spela in och sedan gestalta för publiken, som väljer vilka scener de vill se, som i en jukebox. Konceptet lägger en särskild vikt vid hur orden sägs; betoningar, rytm, pauser med mera.

Det bejublade franska teaterkompaniet l’Encyclopédie de la parole är tillbaka i Göteborg och tillsammans med en svensk ensemble skapar de en jukebox som låter göteborgarna återuppleva orden som omger dem varje dag. Och kanske upptäcka helt nya. En unik föreställning som styrs av publiken.

L’Encyclopédie de la Parole har tidigare gästat Folkteatern vid två tillfällen, dels i augusti 2016, då de framförde Suite n°2 som en del av Göteborgs dans- och teaterfestival, dels hösten 2017 då de genomförde en workshop som la grunden för hela Jukebox-konceptet. Med föreställningen Jukebox har de rest och både spelat in och spelat upp 18 städers unika röster, från Thessaloniki till Ouagadougou, och nu äntligen landat hos oss i Göteborg!

Regissören och dramatikern Joris Lacoste, som varit inblandad i en stor mängd uppsättningar och performanceverk under sin långa karriär, uppmärksammades i somras för sin uppsättning Nexus de l’adorationpå teaterfestivalen i Avignon.

L'Encyclopédie de la parole

L'Encyclopédie de la parole is an artistic project exploring the spoken word in all its forms. Since September 2007, Encyclopédie de la parole has been collecting various recordings and indexing them according to specific phenomena that make up how people speak as pacing, chorality, timbre, address, overemphasis, spacing, residue, saturation or melody. The Encyclopédie has dedicated an entry to each of these phenomena, all of which contain an explanatory notice and a set of audio examples. Its motto is: “We are all experts in speaking.”

Elise Simonet, Artistic Director for and member of l’Encyclopédie de la parole

Following training in directing and scenography in Bordeaux, Elise Simonet works today alongside numerous artists in the domain of live art, whether as dramaturg or artistic collaborator. Since 2010 she has accompanied the work of Alain Michard, Grand Magasin, l’Amicale de Production, Belinda Annaloro, Gérald Kurdian, Jung-Ae Kim, Pauline Simon, Mette Ingvarsten, Mylène Benoit, Thibaud Croisy, Anne-Sophie Turion et Jeanne Moynot, Nina Santes et Célia Gondol, François Lanel, Julie Gouju et Adeline Anobile, Olga Dukhovnaya, Halory Goerger, Emilie Rousset, Dominique Gilliot et Valérie Mréjen, the band Aquaserge As a member of the group l’Encyclopédie de la parole, of which she has been associated since 2013, her research touches orality and documentary recordings of speech within live art. She is the artistic collaborator of Joris Lacoste on the Suites Chorales cycle (Suite n°1 ‘abc’ - 2013 / Suite n°2 - 2015 / Suite n°3 ‘Europe’ - 2017 / Suite n°4 - 2020) and co-signs Jukebox (creations 2019 - Gennevilliers, St-Petersburg, Roma, Prato, Cagliari, Conakry / creations 2020 - Bobigny, Nanterre, Malakoff / creations 2021 - Chaux de Fond, Fribourg, Nyon, Geneva, Ouagadougou). In 2015 and 2016 she co-programmed the le festival TJCC alongside Joris Lacoste at the Théâtre de Gennevilliers. In 2012 she created Mon cauchemar, an auditory and visual piece departing from a collection of confounding dreams. Since 2017, she is developing a project of conversations linked to a set of cards drawn by Léo Gobin: the first chapter Parler la musique is based on conversations with musicians and lyricists; the second chapter, De l’usage infini de moyens finis and then Converser starts conversations with polyglots and questions languages, in their private and public use. (Brussels-2018, Fribourg-2019, Strasbourg-2021). In 2021 she worked along with Antoine Cegarra et Leyla Rabih on the collaborative project ARK (curated by Quarantine within the framework of the European program Moving Borders) in its french version, at Le Maillon, Strasbourg. As a dramaturg, she was invited to Cliniques Dramaturgiques by Jessie Mill at FTA Montreal in 2018, at 1:1 by Sarah Israel at PAF Berlin in 2019 and 2020, and co-organized les Cliniques Dramaturgiques of Short Theater Festival in Rome with Riccardo Fazi et Jessie Mill in 2020. In 2021 she worked along with Antoine Cegarra et Leyla Rabih on the collaborative project ARK (curated by Quarantine within the framework of the European program Moving Borders) in its french version, at Le Maillon, Strasbourg. She is also a regular lecturer in the cycle of dramaturgy modules at La Bellone, Brussels.

Joris Lacoste, writer, director and founder of l’Encyclopédie de la parole

Joris Lacoste has been writing for theatre and radio since 1996, and has been directing his own performances and shows since 2003: 9 lyriques pour actrice et caisse claire in 2005, Purgatoire in 2007 and Le vrai spectacle in 2011. In 2004, he founded the collective research project W. He was an associate author at the Théâtre de la Colline in 2006-2007. From 2007 to 2009, he was co-director of the Laboratoires d'Aubervilliers.

In 2007, he founded the collective Encyclopédie de la parole, within the framework of which he created the shows Parlement (2009), Suite n°1 (2013), Suite n°2 (2015), blablabla (2017), Suite n°3 (2017), Jukebox (2019) and Suite n°4 (2020). The performances of the Encyclopédie de la parole have been shown worldwide and were given a Portrait at the Festival d'Automne à Paris in 2020. In 2018, he created the piece Noyau ni fixe with 9 young performers from the Talents Adami program. In 2023, in Ghent, he created the very first stage version of Luciano Berio's A-Ronne with the Ensemble HYOID conducted by Filip Rathé. He is currently working on a contemporary opera with the American composer Caroline Shaw for the Deutsche Oper in Berlin. Joris Lacoste has also created numerous performances and taken part in several exhibitions in museums and art centres. He has also translated four Shakespeare plays for directors Gwénaël Morin and Marie Lamachère.
