Google and Spotify sponsors event in Gothenburg

Something is happening in the startup scene in Gothenburg. The city - birthplace of global industries such as Volvo and SKF - is standing before a transformation, from being an industrial city to be the site of a thriving startup culture. As an expression for this Gothenburg Startup Hack takes place in Gothenburg, the second biggest city in Sweden, on May 3rd and has attracted sponsors such as Google, Spotify och Dropbox. – Gothenburg Startup Hack has become way more popular than we could imagine, both with sponsors and participants. It will be a great event, says Per Bergstrom, one of the organizers. I an old bank vault in downtown Gothenburg, over one hundred
participants will compete against each other in a ”hackathon”. It is about creating the best digital product within the 12 hours the hack lasts.

The participants compete in teams with their own ideas, which they are supposed to create a working prototype out of. Several of the sponsors will be present in order to interact with the competing teams. This is one of the few events in Gothneburg that Google has chosen to sponsor. In addition to this, the Swedish success story Spotify as well as Dropbox will be attending. At the end of the day each team presents their solutions to the companies and other competitors. Awards will be handed out and a big party rounds off the evening. The purpose of this day is to open up the world of tech and digital content creation for the people of Gothenburg. It is also about encouraging more people to code and develop digital solutions that create a value for others.

– There is so much potential in this city and we want to create awareness about that. We aim to bring
together the different competencies that exist in Gothenburg. We want to show that Gothenburg is a startup-city to count with in the future, says to Per Bergstrom.

Gothenburg Startup Hack takes place on May 3rd in Chalmerska Huset, Gothenburg.
