GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN – A collaborative project headed by Mimbly AB, Electrolux Professional AB, and Samhall AB has been awarded a 8,7 million sek grant by Water Wise Societies – a Impact Innovation program backed by Vinnova, Formas, and the Swedish Energy Agency.
Funded under the call “Sustainable Water for All by 2050,” the project aims to develop and demonstrate a scalable, retrofit-based solution for circular water use in large-scale commercial laundry. By scaling and integrating Mimbly’s water-recycling and microplastic filtration technology into larger professional washing systems, the multi-actor partnership will drive real-world systemic change across the sector.
“This is not just about a product, but about enabling circular water use in an entire sector”, says Isabella Palmgren, CEO & Co-founder of Mimbly
Every time the world washes clothes, pristine water is wasted and microplastics enter our oceans; this project provides a direct, industrial-scale solution. By testing and monitoring the system in Samhall's live operating environments, the project will deliver:
- A verified retrofit solution engineered to support existing large scale professional machinery without costly asset replacement.
- Monitoring and documenting water savings and microplastic reduction.
- Delivering a commercially viable framework ready for adoption in commercial laundry facilities.
True system innovation requires collaboration. By uniting Mimbly's technology, Samhall’s industrial facilities, and Electrolux Professional’s massive international footprint, this project won't just transform water management in Sweden, we aim to create a scalable blueprint built to change how the world uses water.
