Babs & the babes
Grundstommen i Babs & the babes är det äkta paret Barbro Petersen och Lasse Nilsson. Barbro och Lasse blev ett par 2010.
Både Barbro och Lasse har erfarenhet av musikeryrket då de var aktiva redan i början av 80 talet. Lasse var sångare, gitarrist och låtskrivare i Göteborgsgrupperna 7:e Avenyn, Blacky band och Public och Barbro var sångerska och låtskrivare i Göteborgsgruppen Dolce Vita.
Redan under första året tillsammans började de att uppträda i några mindre sammanhang och upptäckte då snabbt att de har två röster som fungerar väldigt väl ihop. Barbro har en mycket kraftig och låg altröst och Lasse kan fortfarande utan problem träffa de högsta tonerna för en tenor. Två röster som bryter mot det mer traditionella och istället har kvinnan den mörka och mannen de ljusa i tonerna.
De har sökt lite genom musikgenrer. De började med svenska visklassiker som de arrangerade i modernare tappning, men hamnade till sist i nuvarande stil. Detta mycket tack vare Barbros förkärlek för klassisk soul och artister som Gladys Night, Roberta Flack m fl. Den första
studioinspelningen blev en av Melody Gardot´s stora hits Baby I’m a fool som Barbro skrev en svensk text till och av det amerikanska skivbolaget sedan fick rättigheten att framföra.
Denna första inspelning följdes upp av Back to black (Amy Winehouse), Ain´t that just the way (Barbie Benton) och Needles and pins (Smokie).
The backbone of Babs & the babes is the married couple Barbro Petersen and Lasse Nilsson. Barbro and Lasse became a couple in 2010. Both Barbro and Lasse have experience of the music profession as they were active already in the early 80's.
Already during the first year together, they began to perform in some smaller contexts and then quickly discovered that they have two voices that work very well together. Barbro has a very strong and low alto voice and Lasse can still easily hit the highest notes for a tenor. Two voices that break with the more traditional and instead the woman has the dark and the man the light in the tones.
They have searched a bit through music genres. They started with Swedish song classics that they arranged in a modern version, but ended up in the current style. This is largely due to Barbro's predilection for classical soul and artists such as Gladys Night, Roberta Flack and others.
Now Barbro and Lasse are raising their musical commitment by releasing selfproduced material together for the first time. The couple is responsible for all singing efforts.
