Ane Brun to Release New Single, “Do You Remember” on May 17th.

Do You Remember is the first single from Ane Brun’s upcoming album It All Starts With One. The album is produced by Tobias Fröberg, and should have been recorded 2010, but was postponed when both Peter Gabriel and Ani Difranco - two artists who have meant a lot to Ane – asked her to join them on their tours.
Peter Gabriel collaboration with the Scandinavian singer/songwriter continues on his next album New Blood, due to be released this year.

After her three studio albums and years on the road, both her established audience and her rapidly growing fanbase eagerly await her next release. In the last year she’s had time while touring the world to write more songs and also finish the ones she had already started.  During the magical time of recording the new album, there was no doubt that this was the perfect time. Everything just fell into place.

Ane Brun:
” Do You Remember was one of the last songs I wrote for the album. I had a particular idea for backing vocals on this tune. I wanted them to be energic, desperate and quite folky. First I thought I’d lay them down myself, but after attending a show with Swedish folk duo First Aid Kit, I new right there and then that I wanted their amazing sound for this! I went backstage straight after the show to ask them, and I was thrilled when they said yes! A few days later they came down to the studio and delivered exactly what I had imagined in my head”

Tobias Fröberg:
”- It’s funny, of all the demos that Ane send me, I didn’t listen to Do You Remember. It ended up somewhere in between everything somehow. When she asked me what I thought of it, I said I didn’t know.  I had forgotten to listen. Give me five minutes, I said to her on the phone, and I’ll call you right back.
What I heard was a perfect pop tune. One of those that are both classic and innovative at the same time.
I remember feeling all emotional and teary eyed. Because this was The Song that I wanted Ane to write for the album, in addition to all the other fantastic songs she’d already send me. ”

”I wanted to emphazise the energy of the lyrics of Do You Remember. So I decided to use three drummers for this recording. For the album we were already using Per Eklund (Miike Snow, El Perro del Mar, Lykke Li) and Ola Hultgren (Loney Dear, Thus Owls), and now Lars Skoglund (Lykke Li, Laakso, Markus Krunegård) joined us in the studio in Stockholm. I wanted this version to have the same strong effect on people as Ane’s simple demo recording had on me,, and I believed that three drummers playing simultaneously would do the trick. Lucklily I was right. This is the only song on the album where we’ve used a bass guitar, and it’s played by Peter Morén (Peter, Björn and John). The results are exactly as I had wished for. It sounds like vinyl and 2011 at the same time.  At least in my ears.”

The single Do You Remember is available digitally from May 17th and as limited edition 7¨vinyl from June 27th which includes the B side ¨One Last Try¨, a more melancholic take on the A sides theme. 

Ane Brun starts her European tour in October 2011.
