Swedish consortium launches a ledger-based network to enable trust in data marketplaces

A consortium of Swedish companies has launched a new trust network to revolutionise data exchange across multiple sectors, starting with healthcare in Europe. The network, based on a ledger, aims to verify the authenticity and integrity of data exchanged between transacting parties in any data marketplace, creating a safer and more reliable ecosystem for data exchange. This launch represents a significant step towards building trust in data exchange, particularly the proposed European Health Data Space (EHDS) regulation that seeks to promote data exchange across the EU while tackling barriers to enable personalised digital health services. With support for cross-border data exchange through European Digital Identity (EUDI) wallets, the trusted network is poised to transform the future of data exchange in healthcare and beyond.

The hyperledger indy ledger-based trust network comprises four validator nodes provided by the NordXDataspace (NXD) consortium operated by partner companies. These nodes will ensure that the necessary safeguards are in place for individuals and organisations to share data without fear of misuse or legal ramifications. Sharing data in a fair, findable, accessible, interoperable, and reusable way is not easy, as health information systems are diverse, and countries are at different stages of digitalisation.

“We're delighted that Redpill Linpro, RISE and MyData Sweden, the first organisations to join with iGrant.io in the NXD consortium, are operating validator nodes within the NXD ledger network. This further strengthens the security and reliability of the network, which are requisites for trustworthy data exchange transactions”, says Lal Chandran, CTO of iGrant.io

“For patients and the healthcare sector to share information of a sensitive nature, there needs to be trust. This initiative provides a key component for the trusted data exchanges that will enable patients to share data with healthcare professionals and researchers confidently”, says Fredrik Linden, MyData Sweden.

“At Redpill Linpro, we are committed to building better digital societies. Thus, being part of this important network enabling the healthcare sector to share data safely and securely, ultimately providing patients with better care, is an excellent example”, says Henrik Gavelli, CEO of Redpill Linpro.

“The initiative started as a research project, supported by Vinnova, with a vision of building a Swedish decentralised health data space where the patient is at the centre of the health system. This NXD announcement represents the fruit of that investment in high-quality collaborative research”, says Abdul Ghafoor, Research Area Leader (IC2S) at RISE.
