13 Tips For Better Sleep

If you, like many people, have been struggling to get good quality sleep, then chance are you are doing something wrong. Adjusting your lifestyle for the better can however help you sleep soundly at night. Here are a few tips how.

1.Avoid electronics in the bedroom: E-readers, laptops, smartphones, televisions, and tables have all encroached our bedrooms making it almost impossible to get enough sleep. Avoiding all these electronics in your bedroom can help you get good quality sleep. It is especially important to put your phone on silent each time you go to bed, and out of reach. You will also need to avoid reading novels or eating food in the bedroom.

2.Replace digital clocks with the good old ones: Although digital wall clocks may seem like the in-thing, they too should be avoided in the bedroom. Some of these clocks emit blue light that makes them visible at night. Replacing these with clocks that use hands instead can however save you the frustration of gazing at the blue light each time you wake from sleep.

3.Avoid midday naps: While a midday nap can be energizing, it can have a significant impact on your sleep pattern at night. If you need to take a nap, make it less than 15 minutes to avoid drifting into deep sleep. Deep sleep during the night will mean no sleep at night.

4.Avoid afternoon coffee: A cup of coffee in the morning may be okay, but one after midday isn’t. Coffee contains caffeine that keeps the brain stimulated, which reduces the likelihood of finding sleep when you need it.

5.Have a regular sleep schedule:Create a sleeping routine whereby you only go to bed at specific times.Sticking to the routing will enable the body drift into the same, thus making it easier to fall asleep.

6.Try not to oversleep: Most of us tend to oversleep after sleeping late. While going to be early is ok, oversleeping isn't. Oversleeping may reset your internal clock sending the entire system out of balance.

7.Don’t be anxious: Some people get concerned when they go to bed. Anxiety will only make the situation worse, and especially if you are wondering how long it will take to fall asleep. Instead, focus on simpler things such as gazing into the dark, humming your favorite song, or simply not thinking about anything at all. This should help the mind relax instead, hence drift into sleep much faster.

8.Make it a habit of going to the bathroom just before bed: Emptying your bladder just before bedtime reduces your chance of having to wake up to go to the toilet deep into the night.

9.Avoid pets on your bed: Some people have a habit of bringing pets on their beds. As caring as this may seem, pets can be the reason you aren’t getting enough sleep. Have the pet sleep on a separate bed or the floor.

10. Good Mattress: A good mattress makes all the difference to a good night’s rest - so look at reviews and go for one such as this Zeopedic mattress.

11.Stretch a bit: Stretching a bit, doing pushups, rope skipping, etc. promotes blood flow to all parts of the body, which again makes it possible to fall asleep fast.

12.Prepare clothes for the next day early:As cheesy as it may sound, preparing your outfits for the next day can reduce tension and anxiety. This is particularly important for people that fret over what they will wear the next day.

13.Clear your thoughts: Drifting deep in thoughts when in the bedroom can ruin chances of getting a good night's sleep.Clearing your thoughts when in the bedroom can help find sleep faster. Try taking a shower just before bed to relax.
