Stockholm supports foreign-born women to become entrepreneurs

Invest Stockholm and Position 99 were co-organizing A Woman’s Place Scaleup Day on 28th November 2022 to address the challenges entrepreneurs are facing and trying to raise funds for their businesses. People with insight and experience in supporting, building and investing in new and growing companies attended in this event.

As co-founder and CEO of Marketplace STHLM, a business incubator for underrepresented entrepreneurs, Bashar Yousif was also invited to join the initiative.

The day had a large and vibrant attendance, staggering engagement and with many interesting points brought out front and center.

"It is a great experience to see Stockholm bringing its light onto and waking up to the potential relentlessly brewing all around the underrepresented Stockholm community", says Bashar.

Having again noted this underutilised and unsupported potential where less than 1 percent of venture capital goes to companies founded by women and only 1.3 percent of European venture capital to companies founded by ethnic minorities.

We can only once again conclude there is this fantastic entrepreneurial drive, creativity and potential just awaiting for future-aware investors to yet discover and take positions in as leaders and builders of new venture capital markets.

Knowledgeable panel discussions gave attendees a deep insight into how to create a business climate that suits women. Entrepreneurs such as Andra Farhad Börshajen in the stock industry and Cecilia and Jenny in the music industry shared their experiences of the entrepreneurial journey.
