Pressmeddelande -

Rädda European Union Youth Orchestra

Cheferna för Kungliga Operan, Kungliga Filharmonikerna och Sveriges Radios Symfoniorkester har gjort ett gemensamt uttalande till stöd för European Union Youth Orchestra.

An Open Letter to Mr Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner:

Save the European Union Youth Orchestra

During the lifetime of EUYO many young Swedish musicians have had the opportunity and the pleasure of playing in the EUYO. The orchestra has been an important platform for young musicians from all over the EU to experience and learn about the international music life. In times of trouble there is a particular value in gathering young musicians from different nations in cultural collaboration. With the closing of the orchestra the EU loses an important part of its cultural life.

We ask Mr Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport to find alternative urgent core funding from the EU to ensure the continuation of one of Europe’s greatest cultural endeavours – the European Union Youth Orchestra. Celebrating its 40th anniversary, the EUYO will cease operations on 1 September following a decision by the EU not to fund its pan-European project T2020.
