​Pernilla August receives the Ganneviks scholarship in film 2016

Pernilla August will receive $61000 from Per Ganneviks foundation for cultural purposes for her achievements in the arts. The scholarship was awarded during a ceremony at the Kulturhuset City Theatre in Stockholm on Monday evening. It is the fourth year that Per Ganneviks foundation for cultural purposes awards five scholarships, according to the donor's will, to support artists who can be expected to be of great importance for the cultural heritage.

Scholarship Motivation

The film is after many years on the theatrical stage her natural home. Today, she is an internationally renowned film director. The cinematography, as well as theater, is a serious game. It requires both levity and courage, ingenuity and imagination, desire and energy, deep insight and great compassion and a real practical skill. And the game she masters to perfection.

Per Ganneviks foundation for cultural purposes

2012 donated financier and art lover Per Gannevik about 60 million to the Arts. In accordance with the terms Testament was formed when Per Ganneviks foundation for cultural purposes. The Foundation's purpose is to support contemporary artists who can be expected to be of importance to cultural heritage. The fellows will be sought in the five areas of art which usually supports the Arts - art and design, music, theater, dance and film. The Foundation Board is in accordance with the statutes the same as the Swedish Arts Grants Committee's board.

About Pernilla August

Pernilla August was born in 1958 in Stockholm. She graduated from drama school in Stockholm in 1982 and the same year she got her breakthrough as an actor through his participation in Ingmar Bergman's Fanny and Alexander.

Since then she has three movies and TV series been playing Bergman's cinematic mother. Her performance in The Best Intentions (1992), a role performance that won the award for Best Actress at the Cannes Film Festival and gave her a Guldbagge award for Best Actress. Then she played the mother is also in Private Confessions (1996) and In the Presence of a Clown (1997).

Pernilla August, in addition to the many roles she played on the theater scene, starred in nearly 70 films so far in his career. Among those are the big international productions Star Wars I - The Phantom Menace (1999) and Star Wars 2 - Attack of the Clones (2002). In recent years we have seen her in Call Girl (2012), The White People (2015) and the Gentlemen & Gangsters (2016).

Except that she is one of our best known and most appreciated actresses in film and theater, she has also directed short films, TV series and feature films. As a feature film director she debuted with the Beyond (2010), which she also wrote the screenplay for by Susanne Alakoski novel. For which she was awarded a Guldbagge for Best Director. In September this year the film The Serious Game Swedish cinema premiere.

Previous awards and honors in the selection: Won Guldbagge in 1992 for Best Actress, for Best Supporting Actress in 2000 and 2011 for Best Director and has also been nominated for an additional five Guldbagge Awards in various categories. She has also received Teaterförbundet Gösta Ekman Scholarship in 1998, the Royal Medal litteris et artibus 2002, Eugene O'Neill Award 2002 (Royal Dramatic Theatre), Region Skåne Culture Prize in 2010 and numerous other international awards and nominations.
