Gaydon, UK – Wednesday 31 May 2023: New Range Rover Sport SV is the most powerful and dynamic Range Rover Sport ever, blending supreme performance and dynamism with peerless Range Rover capability, refinement and reductive design. Its array of performance-enhancing technologies includes the most advanced suspension system in its class8 and a sensory audio system with wellness benefits.

Inherent to the high-performance credentials of New Range Rover Sport SV, an exclusive airflow-enhanced design delivers a more assertive and grounded aesthetic, with functional lightweight and technical material choices throughout reinforcing its high-performance capabilities.

Powered exclusively by a new 635PS, 750Nm2 4.4-litre Twin-Turbo MHEV V8 petrol engine – 60PS and 50Nm more than the previous generation Range Rover Sport SVR’s Supercharged 5.0-litre V8 – New Range Rover Sport SV is capable of accelerating from 0-60mph in as little as 3.6 seconds3 and a top speed of 180mph. CO2emissions and fuel economy have improved by 15 per cent compared to the previous model’s 575PS V8.

This outstanding performance is enabled by a combination of features that deliver a weight saving of up to 76kg1, including the world’s first 23-inch Carbon Fibre Wheel option, Carbon Ceramic Brakes (option available for the first time on a Range Rover), and standard-fit aerodynamic enhancements including a carbon fibre bonnet.

Exemplifying Range Rover’s modern luxury philosophy, New Range Rover Sport SV is initially being reserved for select clients globally, with the invitation-only SV EDITION ONE specification representing a curation of the best feature combinations, colours and finishes. Each Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE is enhanced with exclusive branding on the front splitter, centre console, treadplates and puddle lamps. Every Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE is already allocated to a Range Rover client.

Geraldine Ingham, Managing Director, Range Rover, said: “New Range Rover Sport SV exemplifies Range Rover’s philosophy, not just as a bold evolution beyond its Range Rover Sport SVR predecessor but also in the personalised approach we are taking with our most discerning clients.”

New Range Rover Sport SV has undergone the most demanding virtual and real-world testing and development programme in SVO history. Engineers spent thousands of hours in state-of-the-art simulators before embarking on an epic tour of the world’s most challenging environments. From the minus 40°C temperatures of Arjeplog, Sweden to the intense 40°C-plus heat of the Dubai desert via specialist testing facilities such as Nardo in Italy, Ladoux in France and the gruelling Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, New Range Rover Sport SV has proved itself in the most extreme circumstances.

Nick Collins, Executive Director, Vehicle Programmes, JLR, said: “New Range Rover Sport SV delivers an optimum blend of supreme performance, unrivalled desirability, capability and refinement. It’s a visceral addition to the Range Rover Sport line-up that powerfully demonstrates the world-class expertise of our high-performance specialists.”

01: PERFORMANCE

New Range Rover Sport SV unlocks the full performance potential of Range Rover’s pioneering Modular Longitudinal Architecture, MLA-Flex. The mixed-metal platform’s inherent strength and stiffness combine with New Range Rover Sport SV’s enhanced chassis systems and uprated hardware to deliver supreme performance and refinement.

Chassis and Suspension

Fundamental to this breadth of capability is 6D Dynamics, an all-new specially developed suspension system featuring hydraulic interlinked dampers and SV-calibrated switchable-volume air springs. 6D Dynamics replaces Range Rover Sport’s Dynamic Response Pro electronic active roll control system, and builds on the inherent strengths of its intelligent Dynamic Air Suspension for an even more focused, sports car-like driving experience – without compromising comfort and refinement.

New multi-valve Continuously Variable Semi-Active Dampers enable independent control of compression and rebound. Made from lightweight aluminium, they are interlinked with 25 metres of hydraulic lines.

So named for the technical term ‘Six Degrees of Freedom’, which describes the number of axes a rigid body can freely move in a three-dimensional space, 6D Dynamics is powered by two independent ECUs. It removes the need for conventional anti-roll bars, saving a total of 8kg compared to an electronic active roll control system.

The transfer of fluid from the dampers on one side of the vehicle to the other counteracts roll, while a central Load Distribution Unit regulates fluid pressure between the front and rear axles to reduce pitch, ensuring New Range Rover Sport SV maintains a near-level body stance while cornering and during extreme acceleration and braking.

6D Dynamics can generate the equivalent of up to 2300Nm of resistive roll torque – a 64 per cent increase versus the Dynamic Response Pro electronic anti-roll control system fitted to Range Rover Sport – and the equivalent of up to 4000Nm of resistive pitch torque. Pressure within the hydraulic system can reach up to 270 bar during the most demanding driving conditions.

6D Dynamics also benefits comfort and ride refinement. The Automatic Pressure Maintenance Unit can increase or decrease the pressure within the system depending on the drive mode selected, allowing for greater breadth between modes. A Comfort Valve on the dampers allows 6D Dynamics’ roll control functionality to be disabled when the vehicle is travelling in a straight line, enhancing passenger comfort. The lack of a mechanical link between the wheels also benefits independent wheel control and articulation.

Jamal Hameedi, Director, SVO at JLR, said: “The development of New Range Rover Sport SV is the most complex and rewarding programme we’ve ever undertaken. From its world-first dynamics technologies to its immersive audio with wellness benefits, this performance champion has brought out the best from our whole team. We can’t wait for SV EDITION ONE clients to experience its astonishing capability.”

Riding between 10mm and 25mm lower than other Range Rover Sport models, depending on the drive mode selected, New Range Rover Sport SV’s 6D Dynamics suspension works seamlessly with the suite of advanced chassis and suspension systems. Unique SV-tuned settings are applied to systems including the Intelligent All-Wheel Drive, All-Wheel Steering, Torque Vectoring by Braking, Configurable Dynamics, Active Locking Rear Differential and single-speed transfer case to deliver a more engaging driving experience.

New Range Rover Sport SV’s All-Wheel Steering, for instance, is more active than in other Range Rover Sport models, enhancing both low-speed agility and high-speed stability.

New Range Rover Sport SV also features specially developed chassis components including a new rear subframe and new suspension links with revised geometry and compliance. A new electronically power-assisted steering rack has the fastest ratio of any Range Rover to date – 13:6:1 – for enhanced agility and improved feel.

Demonstrating the combined benefits of these technologies, New Range Rover Sport SV is capable of generating lateral acceleration in excess of 1.1G on standard-fit Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tyres. That represents a 22 per cent increase on the previous generation Range Rover Sport SVR on summer tyres and is comparable to track-focused sports cars.

SV Mode

Maximising the benefit of New Range Rover Sport SV’s uprated dynamic hardware, drivers can intensify the car’s sporting attitude by pressing the new SV Mode button on the steering wheel. A step beyond Range Rover Sport’s existing Dynamic mode, SV Mode optimises the steering, eight-speed automatic gearbox, throttle response, exhaust note and 6D Dynamics suspension to deliver the most dynamic and visceral experience possible.

In SV Mode New Range Rover Sport SV’s ride height is lowered by an additional 15mm – so the vehicle rides 25mm lower in total than other Range Rover Sport models – and 6D Dynamics’ hydraulic system pressure is raised by up to 51 per cent for increased roll and pitch stabilisation.

Ross Restell, Vehicle Dynamics Manager, SVO at JLR, said: “The breadth of New Range Rover Sport’s capability is what sets it apart, and the expectation for a worthy successor to the hugely characterful Range Rover Sport SVR set the bar high. We set ourselves incredibly challenging dynamics targets, and we hit every single one. It’s a vehicle we’re hugely proud of.”

SV Mode also allows the track-oriented TracDSC stability control programme to be activated, for drivers to more freely explore New Range Rover Sport SV’s dynamic balance.

Braking System

Enhancing its on-road dynamic capability, every New Range Rover Sport SV benefits from a specially developed high-performance braking system, with clients able to choose between standard mixed-metal Dual-Cast and optional Carbon Ceramic braking technologies.

Carbon Ceramic Brakes (CCB), available for the first time on a Range Rover, deliver ultimate braking performance with improved resistance to high-temperatures, a longer lifespan and 34kg (or 32 per cent) total unsprung weight reduction versus the standard Dual-Cast Brakes. This reduction in unsprung and rotating mass at each corner of the car results in even more responsive handling, faster acceleration and improved ride quality.

The innovative Dual-Cast discs feature a cast iron friction ring – the part of the disc that connects with the brake pads – and an aluminium bell, combining the heat resistant properties of the former metal with the lightweight properties of the latter. New Range Rover Sport SV’s Dual-Cast Brakes – another first for Range Rover – offer improved stopping power, resistance to high-temperatures and reduced weight versus conventional brake disc technologies.

Whichever braking technology is specified, the unique eight-piston Brembo Octyma front calipers are the largest ever fitted to a Range Rover. Developed exclusively for New Range Rover Sport SV and sculpted to complement its reductive design, the calipers incorporate a unique cross-shape piston arrangement to maximise braking efficiency.

New Range Rover Sport SV’s braking technologies also feature the largest brake discs available in the automotive industry. The Carbon Ceramic discs measure 440mm and 390mm in diameter at the front and rear respectively, while the Dual-Cast discs measure 420mm and 390mm respectively.

Both braking technologies are controlled by Decoupled Integrated Power Braking technology. This helps reduce stopping distances and ensures consistent brake pedal feel in all conditions, giving the driver the utmost confidence in New Range Rover Sport SV’s dynamic handling.

Wheels and Tyres

Further reducing unsprung rotational mass, New Range Rover Sport SV can be specified with world-first ultra-lightweight 23-inch Carbon Fibre Wheels. These innovative one-piece wheels save an average of 9kg per corner – a total of 35.6kg, or 41 per cent – compared with conventional 23-inch cast-alloy wheels, resulting in improvements to outright performance, handling and ride quality.

Three years in development, the Carbon Fibre Wheels are assembled from more than 200 individual components bonded together with resin. While incredibly light, they are engineered and tested to the toughest durability and robustness standards – the same as Range Rover’s cast or forged alloy wheels.

A ceramic Thermal Barrier Coating, similar to those used in the aerospace industry, is applied to the reverse of the front wheels’ spokes to protect the carbon fibre from high brake temperatures.

New Range Rover Sport SV can also be specified with 23-inch forged alloy wheels, which represent a 14kg (or 16 per cent) saving versus conventional cast alloy wheels of the same size.

Whichever wheel is specified, New Range Rover Sport SV is equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport All Season 4 tyres. With a unique construction, tread pattern and compound for New Range Rover Sport SV, this high-performance all-season tyre delivers more grip in all road conditions than the summer tyre fitted to the previous Range Rover Sport SVR without compromising all-weather capability.

The fitment of staggered-width 285/40 front and 305/35 rear tyres is a first for the brand – the rear tyres are the widest ever fitted to a Range Rover. Moreover, New Range Rover Sport SV features significantly increased camber compared to Range Rover Sport, further enhancing its dynamic abilities.

Propulsion

New Range Rover Sport SV is the most powerful Range Rover Sport ever. With 635PS and 750Nm of torque – up to a combined 800Nm with Dynamic Launch activated – the specially tuned 4.4-litre V8 engine, with mild-hybrid technology and parallel twin-scroll turbochargers in a ‘hot-vee’ formation, produces 60PS and 50Nm more than the previous generation Range Rover Sport SVR’s Supercharged 5.0-litre V8.

Each cylinder features spray bore technology – replacing typical steel liners with an extremely thin spray-on metallurgy. This reduces weight and friction, while improving heat transfer and thermal efficiency. The Valvetronic variable intake and double VANOS valve actuation system augment the cam operation for optimal combustion across the rev range, and contribute to a high overall rev limit of 7,200rpm. With Dynamic Launch engaged, New Range Rover Sport SV EDITION ONE can accelerate from 0-60mph in as little as 3.6 seconds (0-100km/h in 3.8 seconds)3. Its top speed is 180mph.

With Mild-Hybrid (MHEV) technology helping to deliver a 15 per cent improvement in fuel efficiency and reduction in CO2 emissions compared to Range Rover Sport SVR’s V8, the new engine provides immediate responses with exceptional drivability, delivering peak power more efficiently than ever before. The MHEV system uses a Crank-Integrated Starter Generator in place of the alternator to assist the engine with up to 20kw/175Nm of electrical power, with a 48-volt lithium-ion battery to store energy captured as the vehicle brakes and decelerates.

New Range Rover Sport SV also features an exclusive Active Exhaust system that not only provides a distinctive sound synonymous with high-performance vehicles, but also ensures optimum exhaust back pressure that is integral to achieving peak performance.

New Range Rover Sport SV uses a rapid-responding eight-speed ZF automatic gearbox, with unique SV calibration, linked with Range Rover’s Intelligent All-Wheel Drive system, seamlessly managing power distribution for the most capable and effortless driving experience.

02: TECHNOLOGY

As well as performance, New Range Rover Sport SV features immersive technologies for comfort, convenience and configurability, making living with Range Rover’s performance champion as effortless as it is engaging. Range Rover’s Electrical Vehicle Architecture (EVA 2.0) is the digital spine, supporting connectivity, Software Over The Air (SOTA) capability and advanced convenience features.

Body and Soul Seat

Raising that sense of connection even higher, New Range Rover Sport SV introduces Body and Soul Seat (BASS), a multi-dimensional audio experience with wellness benefits which allows front seat occupants to feel the sound. This is the first production vehicle to incorporate a tactile audio system from industry leader SUBPAC – technology used by the world’s top recording artists and composers.

Incorporating SUBPAC’s AI optimising software, and transducers aligned to front seat occupants’ backs, Body and Soul Seat analyses media in real-time, generating high fidelity audio vibrations to create the most engaging and immersive in-car audio. This system works in combination with the 29-speaker, 1430W, Meridian Signature Sound System

Beyond immersion in music, the Body and Soul Seat Wellness programmes can help enhance New Range Rover Sport SV’s front-seat occupants’ mental and physiological wellbeing by influencing heart rate variability (HRV) – the variation in time between each heartbeat. High HRV is indicative of lower stress levels and relaxation.

Designed in collaboration with Coventry University’s National Transport Design Centre and the School of Media and Performing Arts, six specially developed tracks – Relax, Calm, Balance, Focus, Energise and Wake Up – could affect passengers’ HRV, either helping to reduce anxiety or improve cognitive response, studies have shown.

Pivi Pro

New Range Rover Sport SV’s award-winning Pivi Pro4 infotainment features a high resolution floating 13.1-inch curved touchscreen positioned at the centre of the modernist dashboard. Controlling everything from navigation to media and vehicle settings, it learns the user’s habits and intelligently personalises the onboard experience, becoming a truly intuitive personal assistant.

New sidebars with easy-to-use sliding controls for the volume and climate controls provide immediate and precise operation of key functions directly, whatever menu screen is displayed, and approximately 80 per cent of tasks can be performed within two taps of the home screen. Haptic feedback provides an added level of tactility and communication with the user.

The Pivi Pro screen is complemented by a 13.7-inch Interactive Driver Display, with high-definition graphics that echo the main Pivi system, and a reconfigurable layout so drivers can see the information that’s most important to them.

A performance-focused design unique to New Range Rover Sport SV is available once SV Mode is activated. It features a central analogue-style rev counter, which flashes orange and eventually red as engine revs increase, prompting the driver to change gear. Either side of the central dial, the driver can choose to display a G-force meter, tyre pressure and temperature information as well as power, torque and turbo boost gauges in place of phone, media or navigation information.

Amazon Alexa5brings a new level of convenience, providing the ability to control various settings and features using natural voice commands while reducing the potential for distraction. Alexa is embedded in Pivi Pro and can simply be activated by saying “Alexa” or tapping the Alexa button on the touchscreen.

Alexa works without a smartphone – all owners need to do is log in via their Amazon account for the vehicle’s built-in eSIMs to provide connectivity. Wireless Apple CarPlay™ and Wireless Android Auto® are both fitted as standard6, meaning smartphones can be tucked out of the way on the dedicated 15W Wireless Device Charger, beneath the Pivi screen, with no trailing wires.
