Eurovision in Malmö: A sneak peak of the host city's festivities

When people from over 80 countries come to Malmö, the city wants to offer a broad and unique programme for everyone. The programme is being organized together with the civil society along with Malmö's cultural and business community. With just over 40 days to go until the start of Eurovision week, the City of Malmö is giving a first sneak peak of its hosting.

– For us, this is an opportunity to celebrate diversity together and to reinforce what we believe in: that music can unite us. The city's stakeholders have shown great commitment to participate in creating programmes – from independent cultural life, restaurants, bars and nightclubs, to meeting places such as community centres and shopping centres, says Karin Karlsson, managing director city host event Eurovision Song Contest 2024 in Malmö.

The centre of the festivities will be the Eurovision Village in Folkets Park. Here the major acts will be presented on the Euphoria Stage. The programme on this stage will be opened by opera singer Malena Ernman in a unique collaboration with the new local gospel choir Malmö Magical Gospel Group.

During the week, Euphoria Stage will offer a varied programme with everything from Ukrainian party music by Go_A and Swedish favourite Dotter. There will be schlager fever with Shirley Clamp together with local star Frans in a specially curated show. The stage will also feature American dance icon Robin S, the artist behind the legendary 90s song Show Me Love – a beloved classic around the world.

On the smaller Tattoo Stage, Malmö residents and visitors will be experiencing smaller acts such as Swedish-Argentine tango by Orquestra Tangarte, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary.

Eurovision Village
will also be inviting visitors to the classic Brändan transformed into the Dancing Queen Stage. Here, there will be a Eurovision-themed roller disco for both adults and children, featuring local as well as international DJs.

Along vibrant Friisgatan, turned into Eurovision Street between Folkets Park and Triangeln, we will be treated to specially curated evenings. The organizer Scania Sounds brings Malmö an evening of the best up and coming artists from the Skåne region in everything from amapiano (afro-beat) to punk. Another night is devoted to lindyhop, swing and dance by Heptown – grab your grandfather's old hat and suspenders and unleash your dancing skills!

Many Eurovision fans will be travelling by train from the Arena to Malmö Central station for pre and after parties inside Malmö Live. In between, they and the city's strollers will be invited to pop-ups in the neighbourhood in the form of choirs, dance groups, and orchestras with names like Over the Water, Crying Day Care Choir, Bunny Brass Band, AMC Bleckhornen but also our young local talents from Malmö School of the Arts.

More parts of the program will be presented in April.
