Mitrionics Powers Green Computing Movement with Latest FPGA Acceleration Technologies, Applications, and Industry Partnerships at SC07

Milestones Reached with Scalability, 900X Performance Increases, Bioinformatics Applications, and Hardware Partners Platform Support Supercomputing 2007, Reno, NV, November 12, 2007 – Mitrionics™, Inc., developer of the Mitrion™ Software Acceleration Platform and the Mitrion Virtual Processor, will be showcasing numerous technology developments, partnerships, and industry milestones at the Supercomputing 2007 Conference this November 10-16, 2007 in Reno, Nevada. Reinforcing its positioning as a leading enabling technology for green computing through its software development platform for FPGA Accelerated Computing, the company will be making numerous announcements regarding new accelerated application performance benchmarks, new industry partnerships, and numerous global customers for its Mitrion Development Platform, and Mitrion-accelerated BLAST bioinformatics application. Mitrionics is located in booth #272 at Supercomputing 2007. Mitrionics will also have a presence in numerous partner booths: DRC Booth #472, Nallatech Booth #161, and SGI Booth #502, “Since last year’s Supercomputing conference, FPGA accelerated computing has gained significant momentum as new technologies, vendors, initiatives, and applications have contributed to increased interest and adoption of this technology,” said Anders Dellson, CEO of Mitrionics, Inc. “One of the big drivers for this is green computing - generating increased processing performance with less electrical power. In this category, our Mitrion Virtual Processor and accelerated Mitrion-BLAST application are enabling performance benchmarks far beyond other technologies.” Mitrionics Accelerated BLAST Achieves 900X Performance on World’s Largest FPGA Supercomputer Mitrionics’ Accelerated NCBI BLAST application was successfully run on the world’s largest Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) supercomputer, which was built, configured, and tested in only two days by SGI®. SGI’s reconfigurable supercomputer featured 70 FPGAs, more than any single system built to date. In a stunning display of scalability, SGI’s FPGA supercomputer accelerated the performance of a complex BLAST-n query by more than 900 times, completing in less than 33 minutes what would take a 68-node Opteron-based cluster approximately three weeks to finish. The application matched 20 nucleotide base pairs against 600,000 queries. No hardware or software was modified for the test. Mitrionics’ New and Expanded Industry Partnerships Over the past year, Mitrionics’ partners have made significant technology and product advancements in their FPGA-based systems, hardware modules, and architectures. Additionally, several new vendors have announced initiatives to support Accelerated Computing. Mitrionics is actively involved with these companies and their products and programs. Mitrionics’ Partners and industry supported initiatives listed alphabetically below. AMD Cray DRC Computer Corporation Hewlett Packard Intel Nallatech Silicon Graphics Xilinx XtremeData Corporation Mitrionics’ Seminar at SC07 Wednesday, 4:00 - 4:30 pm, Location A8 Title: “60x Faster NCBI BLAST on the Mitrion Virtual Processor” Chair/Speaker Details: Kevin Wohlever (Chair) Ohio Supercomputer Center Mitrionics Speaker: Stefan Möhl - Co-Founder & CTO Abstract: The Mitrion Virtual Processor is a massively parallel, configurable soft-core processor design that runs in an FPGA. Fine-grain parallel programs running in the Mitrion Virtual Processor achieve the performance benefits of FPGAs without requiring hardware design. In general the Mitrion Virtual Processor achieves 10-30 times higher performance than traditional high-performance processors like Intel Xeon or AMD Opteron. About Mitrionics Founded in 2001, Mitrionics, Inc. is the technology leader in the exciting new field of FPGA Accelerated Computing which provides higher processing power and lower energy consumption than clusters of computer systems. The company’s Mitrion Virtual Processor and Mitrion Software Development Kit provide cost effective FPGA Supercomputing power to organizations for their most critical applications.
