SS17 ”METRO” COLLECTION
Continuing to draw inspiration from the architecture of its environment, Monokel Eyewear presents its latest collection for Spring Summer 2017, channeling the arresting visuals of Stockholm’s metro stations across a range of brand new silhouettes.
Globally renowned for its unparalleled artistic beauty, the Stockholm metro system is often described as the world’s longest art exhibition, with over 90 of the system’s stations featuring unique decorations by over 150 artists spanning sculpture, painting, relief, mosaic and engraving, blurring the lines between metropolitan infrastructure and aesthetic exploration. It is this symbiosis of flamboyance and functionality that informs Monokel Eyewear’s latest collection.
Three new models form the collection’s foundation. The ‘IOTA’ presents an updated approach to the aviator silhouette, featuring a super-minimalist stainless steel construction in gold, black and silver options. The ‘NEKO’, named from the Japanese word for cat, pushes the exaggerated cat-eye frame of last season’s ‘CLEO’ even further, with aggressive lines and uncompromised flare. Finally, the ‘ANDO’ captures the essence of the Stockholm metro through a classic design in soft colours, accented by meticulous details and subtle stylistic touches.
The broader collection is then united through the introduction of a new range of marble colours, directly inspired by the terrazzo flooring of Stockholm’s Red Line. The result is a comprehensive contemporary eyewear collection, underpinned by the unique visual influence of the Stockholm streets that form the backdrop to Monokel Eyewear’s creative process.

lenses are made by Carl Zeiss Vision®. Each frame is handcrafted with tremendous attention to detail in a process taking well over three months.
