SWEDISH SUMMER IS THE BEST DAY OF THE YEAR /Monokel Eyewear SS23

This spring we celebrate the wait. People in puffers in March, shivering in wind protected corners soaking up the first rays of sun, pretending it’s warm. Faces glued to screens checking the weather forecast. An endless wait for the weather.

Stockholm is located about as far to the north as Anchorage, Alaska. During summer, the sun moves to the side rather than up and down. Half of the day it’s setting, the other half it’s rising. Never really dark.

Time also passes differently (alternativt: works in its own way) here. Months and months we wait and then, for one or a few days each summer, time stops and a whole life is lived in 24 hours. This collection is about that day, and the long wait to get there.

Monokel Eyewear SS23 is crafted with our signature ecological- and biodegradable Havana pattern as a foundation, along with earthy tones of brown, yellow, dark green and black. Timeless and understated just as we are. A highlight this season is the brand new 70s inspired aviator frame, ”JET”, complemented by orange, yellow and blue lenses that brighten up the cloudiest of days.

Most photos were taken at the local beach a few km from Monokel Eyewear’s workshop in the Sthlm archipelago, with some additional images from a roadtrip to Värmland in Sweden. The campaign features friends of the Monokel Eyewear founders - Alma, Anton, Mengly, Lovisa, Ryoma, Mark, Johanna, Alma the dog and Bo the cat.
