A christmas tip: A healthier kind of rice in nonwoven bags
Frebaco Kvarn has launched a completely new product during the autumn: Oat Rice. The Oat Rice is packaged in boil-in-bag bags in nonwoven material from us at Scandinavian Nonwoven.
The Oat Rice is richer in protein, locally grown and more climate-smart than the traditional rice and can be used in sushi, as regular rice, in traditional Swedish Christmas rice pudding (see recipe below!) and for so much more.
In addition, it has a much shorter cooking time than traditional rice - only 13 minutes - perfect in everyday cooking
Kind nonwoven bags
Frebaco Kvarn puts a lot of focus on locally produced and climate-smart food. Therefore, they wanted a kind boil-in-bag that can be sorted as paper. They got the idea from tea bags, says Staffan Pehrsson, product manager for the Oat Rice at Frebaco Kvarn.
Almost like paper
Scandinavian Nonwoven has delivered wetlaid to Frebaco Kvarn's production for the manufacture of the bags. Wetlaid is a type of nonwoven that is often used by the food industry because it is reminiscent of paper but unlike paper it doesn’t fall apart when in contact with water.
In addition, wetlaid can easily be welded together into bags - in this case for Oat Rice. But there are also wetlaids that can be used for tea bags, snuff bags and coffee filters.
Traditional Swedish Christmas dessert from Oat Rice?
As Christmas is approaching, we recommend you to try and make the traditional Swedish Christmas rice pudding or “Ris á la Malta” using the climate-smart Oat Rice.
In Sweden the traditional Christmas dinner is always finished with a bowl of Christmas rice pudding topped with cinnamon – or the more luxurious Ris á la Malta (rice pudding mixed with whipped cream). It is also tradition to put out a bowl of rice pudding for Santa.
You find the recipe for Christmas Oat Rice pudding on Frebaco Kvarn’s website (in Swedish). You can also find other recipes on how to use the Oat Rice in your cooking.
