Hotel Success Hobo Is Finally Coming to Copenhagen

This week, property owner Pandox AB and Strawberry are signing an agreement to establish the lifestyle hotel Hobo in central Copenhagen.

Known more for pop-up clubs and beers from local microbreweries than concierges and fine dining, the urban and rebellious concept Hobo has quickly become a huge success in Stockholm. The hotel's unique design was created in collaboration with the award-winning Studio Aisslinger in Berlin.

– The beauty of Hobo's concept is that there is no template for what or how Hobo should be. The concept is in constant development and reflects how the city develops. At the same time, Hobo must always maintain its core: to redefine what a hotel can and should be. The investment we are now making in Hobo in the various capitals will create new, lively meeting places for the cities, both for the guests who live around the corner and those who come from the other side of the world, says Petter A. Stordalen, owner of Strawberry.

Pandox AB is the property owner of the building where Hobo Copenhagen will be located. Today, the building houses the Hotel Mayfair, located in the heart of Copenhagen, surrounded by historical and cultural landmarks such as Tivoli, City Hall, Ströget and Glyptoteket.

– We are very satisfied with the new lease agreement, which provides a significant increase in the property's value. We took over the hotel business in difficult circumstances in April 2020, and through active measures and hard work, have both renovated and repositioned the hotel product, which we now lease back to a strong operator under an attractive revenue-based lease. It is inspiring to welcome Strawberry with the Hobo brand as a tenant to the hotel. The concept suits the property's character and central location very well, says Liia Nõu, CEO of Pandox AB.

Pandox has owned the hotel property since 2010 and operated the hotel themselves since April 2020. The hotel has 203 rooms. Hobo Copenhagen joins the portfolio of Nordic Hotels & Resorts, which is part of Strawberry and operates more than 40 independent hotels in the Nordics, including Villa Copenhagen in Copenhagen and soon Admiral Hotel in the same city.

– It is good news for us at Nordic Hotels & Resorts that we are finally opening in Copenhagen. Hobo Stockholm has been a great success from the beginning, and now we are expanding with a Hobo in both Helsinki and Oslo – both in prime locations and in fantastic buildings in the capitals. Hobo will conquer the Nordics, and we know that the concept will appeal to both the city's residents and visitors, says Henrik Berghult, Chief Operating Officer at Nordic Hotels & Resorts.

The hotel is expected to open after the summer of 2024.
