New life for a design pioneer

50 years ago, Danish architect and designer Verner Panton created the ground-breaking interior design for the German publishing house Der Spiegel in Hamburg. In collaboration with the Panton family, Offecct now has the privilege to re-edit the acoustic Spiegel Panel true to the original design.

In 1969 Verner Panton created the iconic interior of the German publishing house Der Spiegel in Hamburg. Panton wanted to use all available surfaces in the building for the best possible working environment and developed a system with acoustic panels.

“The pyramid shape is ideal for absorbing sound, while creating an architectural marker in the room, for example in open office landscapes. We are very happy and proud to have the opportunity to re-edit this ground-breaking design and give it a new life”, says Offecct's Brand Manager Maria Olofsson.

The project has been made possible through a collaboration with the Panton family.

"It is a great pleasure to see Verner's acoustic Spiegel Panels in serial production and I am proud to collaborate with Offecct on this project", says Marianne Panton.

The idea, shape and dimensions of the panels follow the original design, while the material and structure has been adapted to meet current rules and standards. The Spiegel Panel is made of polyester fibre which is folded into shape, making it lightweight and easy to recycle, and it is available in the three original depths.

"It is in line with our Offecct Lifecircle philosophy to highlight products with timeless qualities and host design from the past for today's and tomorrow´s users", says Maria Olofsson.

Bio Verner Panton
Danish architect and designer Verner Panton (1926–1998) has created some of the 20th century’s best-known design objects and interiors. Panton broke with the Danish tradition of working with wood and experimented with new materials in such classics as The Cone Chair, Panton Chair and The Flower Pot Lamp. Panton’s ability to combine light, colour and form makes his designs a natural part of our design heritage.
