Here are the participating artists in the 2026 edition of OpenArt in Örebro
OpenArt is Örebro Municipality’s international biennial for contemporary art, featuring participating artists from around the world. This summer marks the opening of the tenth edition of the exhibition, and with less than three months to go, the full list of artists participating in the 2026 edition is now being presented. This year, 36 artists are taking part, some individually and others as artist duos. The 2026 OpenArt brings together artists from five continents, exhibiting across approximately 40 locations in Örebro’s city centre as well as at 5 sites throughout the county.
Selection of artists
The selection of artists is a collaboration between the exhibition producers at OpenArt and the staff of the Art Unit. To broaden the perspective, different jury groups were invited to take part in the selection process. These jury groups were the Children’s Jury and the People’s Jury.
The Children’s Jury consisted of Year 4 (2025) at Drakenbergsskolan, who selected one artwork to be included in this year’s exhibition. They chose a work by the artist Kim Demåne.
The People’s Jury, made up of 11 Örebro residents with an interest in art, aged between 16 and 74, selected two artworks for this year’s exhibition. Their choices fell on works by Christian Ristow and Océane Jacob.
Through the Magic Carpets network, participation has been made possible for eight artists who completed residencies at OpenArt during autumn 2025 and early spring 2026.
Through a collaboration under the name OpenArt Links, together with Region Örebro County and five additional municipalities in the region, participation has also been made possible for five more artists.
One of the exhibiting artist duos participating in OpenArt 2026 will present a larger exhibition at Örebro Konsthall, which is an integrated part of OpenArt 2026 and also serves as the location for the OpenArt Info Center.
