Press invitation to the OpenArt press preview days, June 8-10 2026
Ahead of the opening of OpenArt 2026, we invite the press to follow three days of the final, intense week of installations, when artists from around the world arrive in Örebro to build their works throughout the city. Instead of a traditional press preview, we are opening up the process itself: meet the artists on site, follow the work behind some of this year’s installations, and take part in artist talks at Kulturkvarteret.
Monday, June 8 – installations take shape across the city
The first press day offers a dynamic start to the final installation week, as several of the participating artists begin or continue work on their installations.
At Örebro Art Gallery, OpenArt Infocenter is taking shape, the hub where visitors will find information, book tickets, and begin their tour of the exhibition. At the same time, the artist duo Varvara & Mar are installing their exhibition, where interactive works and AI technology are explored both as creative tools and as structures of power.
At Järntorget, the Norwegian–Danish duo JAM Public continue the work on their large-scale participatory piece Reversed Zoo. Throughout the week, they will meet both the public and the press in the roles of both humans and animals, while this year’s creative workshop grows at the heart of the installation.
Near the Bernadotte statue, artist Kim Demåne. From Malmö, Sweden, is installing his work, centering around the relationship between humans and the city. The piece has been selected by the Children’s Jury, who were invited to contribute their perspectives to this year’s curatorial process.
In Slottsparken, French artist Océane Jacob begins installing her large-scale work made from repurposed fishing nets. Océane was selected by the People’s Jury, a group of Örebro residents of different ages who have helped shape the selection of artworks for OpenArt 2026.
Between Slottsparken and Museiparken, Sámi artist Lena Stenberg is also on site. Her work centers on national borders, identity, and Sámi heritage, and throughout the week she will complete her installations on location.
At Kvarnplatsen, the Swedish duo MASU are working on their extensive wooden sculpture, composed of 4,700 wooden slats joined together into an organic whole.
Tuesday, June 9 – participation, process, and artist talks
The second press day continues with a strong focus on participation, community, and artistic processes unfolding in the urban environment.
During lunchtime, artist talks will be held at Kulturkvarteret. From 12:15 to 13:00, the public and the press are invited to meet Kim Demåne, Océane Jacob, and JAM Public in a conversation led by OpenArt’s exhibition producer, Mattias Käll. After the talk, there will be an opportunity to ask questions and delve deeper into the artists’ processes and ideas.
On Strömpisön, Latvian artist Ieva Saulite is installing her work, developed in close collaboration with participants from different communities within Church Nicolai in Örebro. Her practice often centers on participation and collective processes.
Just outside of Church Nicolai, the Swedish artist duo Rören/Johannessen, who run ArtLab Gnesta, are working on two pieces addressing crisis management and the environment. One of the works functions as a temporary sanctuary, a kind of field hospital for the soul, offering a place for recovery in the middle of the city.
Wednesday, June 10 – sculpture, performance, and powerful narratives
The third press day offers both unexpected installations in the urban landscape and insight into artistic processes.
This Wednesday artist talks will again take place at Kulturkvarteret from 12:15 to 13:00, where Rören/Johannessen, LILITH, and MASU meet in a conversation led by OpenArt’s exhibition producer, Mattias Käll. After the talk, members of the press will have the opportunity to ask questions and explore the artists’ ideas and processes in greater depth.
The American artist Mark Jenkins is appearing in several locations across Örebro with his human‑like sculptures, known for emerging in unexpected and sometimes absurd situations. Throughout the day, his works will be installed around the city.
Outside Nikolaikyrkan, the Malmö‑based duo LILITH are working on the installation of their piece — a large arm that will be activated through three performance events during the summer. Their work is built on close collaborations with participants from Örebro, creating a living connection between place, body, and narrative.
Important information for the press
