Catifa Carta joins the collection of the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) in Melbourne, Australia’s oldest gallery and one of the country’s leading cultural institutions. An important recognition of the journey between PaperShell and Arper, rooted in exploring new possibilities with materials and processes and advancing more responsible and circular design. The Catifa Carta chair shell is made from PaperShell, and developed in collaboration with Arper. Catifa Carta is also currently on display in Plant Life: The Nature of Design at NGV Australia. The exhibition explores the relationship between nature and design, and the role plant-based materials can play in shaping new approaches to design and imagining the future. Catifa Carta by Arper has received an Honorable Mention at the Compasso d’Oro ADI Award, founded by Gio Ponti in 1954 and today one of the most prestigious international design awards. The chair shell is produced using PaperShell’s fossil-free biogenic composite material, bringing biogenic material substitution into one of Europe’s most recognised contemporary chair designs. We at PaperShell are very proud and honoured to have been selected by The European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency (CINEA) to the Grant Agreement Preparation phase under the EU Innovation Fund 2024, one of the world’s largest climate-innovation programmes. The €83 million planned expansion will scale PaperShell’s Tibro-based factory, increasing production of fossil-free and load bearing components. Up to €40.3 million of the total investment is expected to be co-funded through the EU Innovation Fund, given to the successful conclusion of the Grant Agreement. Link to full press release in bio.
