Over 1,000 New 802.11n Access Points Ordered From Proxim in First Week

SILICON VALLEY, CA, Nov 25, 2008 (MARKET WIRE via COMTEX News Network) -- Proxim Wireless Corporation (NASDAQ: PRXM), a leading provider of end-to-end broadband wireless systems that deliver the quadruple play, today announced that it has booked orders for over 1,000 of its new 802.11n Access Points (APs), the ORiNOCO AP-8000 and AP-800, within the first week after product launch. This immediate market response to Proxim's new dual- and single-radio 802.11n APs validates the performance and value of these products. Proxim also believes it demonstrates the beginning of a shift in wireless architectures away from centralized WLANs, which are costly and cause performance bottlenecks with the increased throughput of 802.11n, to the distributed WLAN architecture championed by Proxim.

Announced just last week, on Monday, November 17, Proxim's 802.11n solution is the first to achieve 320 Mbps of throughput with a dual-radio solution. And with Proxim's distributed approach to WLANs, which eliminates the need for costly controller and wiring upgrades, organizations of all sizes can achieve higher performance than their existing wired and wireless LANs typically provide.

More Performance, Less Cost

Proxim's ORiNOCO AP-8000 dual-radio and AP-800 single-radio APs are the first 802.11n solutions on the market to provide better performance than both existing wired and wireless LANs -- without the cost and complexity of upgrading centralized WLANs -- at half the price of existing wireless networks.

-- Higher Performance than Existing Wired LANs/WLANs - Proxim's ORiNOCO AP-800 and AP-8000 provide the highest throughput available with single radio rates of over 170Mbps and dual radio rates of 320Mbps -- 7x the throughput of existing typical WLANs. -- Half the Cost of Existing WLANs - With the added range and throughput, ORiNOCO 802.11n deployments cost only half of today's 802.11a/b/g networks when deployed to achieve the same capacity. -- Reduced Cost of Upgrading to 802.11n - ORiNOCO 802.11n APs are the only 802.11n APs on the market that avoid costly power upgrades and deployment issues by achieving complete 802.3af (PoE) compliance in all configurations and using the same mounting hardware as existing Proxim APs.

"We have had our 802.11g wireless network up and running now for 4 years, and though we've been hearing about the many benefits of upgrading to 802.11n over the last couple of years, the migration path has always seemed too daunting or expensive," said David Watson, Network Manager at Shoreline School District near Seattle, Washington. "With Proxim's 802.11n solution, however, we were able to replace our old APs with the new ORiNOCO AP-8000s in a snap because they use the existing mounting hardware and don't require an extra PoE cable like other solutions. We had everything up and running in a matter of hours, and based on the coverage and performance we've experienced, I can say that we're consistently getting 3x the performance of our old WLAN at half the cost of competing solutions."
