Sävjo Plastic AB launches a brand-new snus can with interconnected parts

The EU’s Single-Use Plastics Directive is setting increasingly stringent requirements for package parts to be made interconnected if possible. From 3 July 2024, for example, all lids and corks on beverage packages must be interconnected, and as a step towards a litter-free world, Sävjo Plastic is now introducing a patented snus can with interconnected parts.

The new design means that all parts of the snus can – can, lid and disposable lid – are interconnected even when the can is opened: a design that has several positive effects from an environmental and sustainability perspective.

“In order to achieve increased levels of plastics recycling, we need to think about how we can improve the way we manufacture and design plastic products. Our new can is cast in one piece in one and the same mould, which is both cost-effective and saves on the environment. We also hope that it will have a positive impact as fewer parts will end up in nature and instead be recycled,” explains Tommy Asterhed, CEO of Sävjo Plastic AB.

Sävjo Plastic has taken a resolute approach to be at the forefront of sustainability and the environment. The company’s customers in the packaging industry were already being offered snus cans in environmentally certified material based on pine oil to reduce the CO² impact.

"We have also developed cans made of oyster shell and are testing various environmental materials to produce a final product that is fully compostable in ordinary household compost,” says Tommy.

All snus cans manufactured by Sävjo Plastic are user-friendly and optimised for production with filling lines. This also applies to the new can with interconnected parts, which comes with the disposable lid closed.

Since 1967, Sävjo Plastic has offered its own plastic products. Today, the production runs 24 hours a day, seven days a week in the production units in Bodafors and Sävsjö. Most of our customers are in the packaging industry. The machinery is modern and the most energy efficient on the market. The fully electric injection moulding machines are powered by electricity from the sun, wind and water. The turnover exceeds SEK 100 million and the company has 26 employees.
