SAS wins two Financial i Leaders in Innovation Awards for its operational risk and enterprise risk management solutions

LONDON  (Jan. 20, 2010)  –  SAS, the leader in business analytics has won two 2009 Leaders in Innovation Awards for best and most innovative solution in the categories of Operational Risk and Enterprise Risk Management from Financial i magazine. SAS earned the awards for excelling in risk management during the last 12 months.

This is the third consecutive year that SAS has won the title for best operational risk management software. “Where it really stands out is in its ‘substantial’ quantitative and qualitative ORM application suite, and its external loss database,” said Peyman Mestichan, Managing Partner of Chartis Research.

“SAS is one of only three firms that leads the Operational Risk category in terms of advanced features and technology. It is also one of the few firms in this space that boasts operational risk capital modelling and data/content provision, which analysts say are key differentiators,” said Ian Manocha, Managing Director, SAS UK and Ireland.

SAS® OpRisk Management is a comprehensive solution built on the SAS Business Analytics Framework.  With powerful data management, analytics, and regulatory reporting and disclosure capabilities, SAS OpRisk Management helps institutions optimise capital allocation while mitigating risks in all areas of their organisations.

SAS also impressed the judges with its enterprise risk management solution. SAS’ ongoing investment in its business analytics platform particularly around data discovery and visualisation, as well as social network analysis in the area of fraud detection and prevention, places the company in a leadership position.

SAS® Enterprise Risk Management delivers a current, credible understanding of the risks unique to an organisation across a broad spectrum that includes all types of risk (credit risk, operational risk, market risk, liquidity risk and trading risk), lines of business and other key dimensions.

The Financial i Leaders in Innovation Awards identify global transactions banks and financial hardware and software vendors that in the last 12 months have demonstrated on-going commitment to innovation in business solutions across wholesale transaction banking.

“Post-crisis, now more than ever before, firms are looking for business solutions that provide a much quicker return on investment and do what they actually say on the tin. In selecting winners in each category we have tried to focus on those companies we and our advisory panel believe have that little something extra that makes their solutions stand out from their competitors in terms of depth and breadth of functionality, ease of implementation and support and solutions that are not looking for a problem to solve but actually address real business needs,” said Anita Hawser, Managing Editor of Financial i.

2009 was another highly successful year for SAS Risk Management software, which received first place in the Chartis Research RiskTech100 report in November and was placed in the Leaders quadrant of the Magic Quadrant for Operational Risk Management Software for Financial Services by Gartner Inc in September. Also, in July 2009, Chartis ranked SAS as the leader in its Credit Risk Management Systems 2009 report for the third straight year and for a fifth straight year, SAS was first in Chartis Research’s Operational Risk Management Systems 2009 report in June.
