Expansion of language support in telecom services

Helsingborg-based Smart Refill is now expanding the language support in their telecom platform to enable more people to handle top ups and contractless subscriptions in their native language. The new languages are Polish, Farsi and Dari and are launched in the operator Telenor's apps and web services.

Smart Refill’s telecom platform has been handling Swedish, English, Finnish, Latvian, Norwegian and Arabic since before. The support has now extended to include Polish, Farsi and Dari - official languages in Poland, Iran and Afghanistan (together with Pashto). In Sweden, there are 232,638 people born in one of these three countries.

- I am proud of the user experiences we offer in our mobile apps and web services, and hope that the investment in increased language support will make it easier for more Swedes to manage their contractless telecom plans, says Henric Ungh, CEO of Smart Refill.

Apps and web services should be simple and fun to use - that’s something Smart Refill has been working for since the IT company was founded in 2006. At a time when online self-service is becoming more common, expectations of accessibility are increasing. One factor to simplify is to offer the service in languages that the user is comfortable with.

Since the beginning of the 2000s, Sweden has had an increase in the number and proportion of foreign-born people. From 1,003,798 (11.3%) foreign-born people in 2000, to 2,019,733 (19.6% of Sweden's population) in 2019 (statistics from SCB).

- We are constantly working to improve the customer experience and we are pleased that, together with Smart Refill, we can now offer a better service in more languages than ever. Smart Refill's telecom platform is used by several of the largest operators in the Nordic and Baltic countries. Through web services and mobile apps, end customers are offered to manage prepaid cards and unsubscribed subscriptions, both for themselves and for their families. Customers can, among other things, top-up, set up subscriptions, utilize promotions, see balance and receive bonuses. 22.5% (3,219,000) of Swedish mobile subscriptions are active prepaid cards.
