Your Facebook photos - are they straight or gay?
Stockholm Pride is releasing the third part of the “How Hetero”-campaign where you can see how hetero your photos are on Facebook. Picture composition along with colors generate a percentage of how heteronormative your photos are.
- “No one has done anything like this before. To discuss how we see images in relation to the hetero norm is one way to elevate the debate about the unwritten rules regarding sexuality and gender”, says Jessica W Sandberg, Press Relations Manager at Stockholm Pride.
Åkestam Holst created the campaign which in July launched the first installment of “How Hetero”. A cyber test scans your last 200 tweets on Twitter, which shows how strongly language is connected to the heteronorm. The test attracted 500 000 visitors and over 200 000 accounts on Twitter were tested. “How Hetero” became the link most twittered about in the world for two days - the same week Michael Jackson died and the worldwide premiere of the latest Harry Potter-film.
The second part was released in October in conjunction with Spotify, where you could hetero-test your playlists - a way to show that people have preconceived notions about what kind of music is considered “hetero” or not.
- “How Hetero” has people reacting all over the world. We succeeded in taking a social issue and mixing it with interactive entertainment to shine a light on the problems with the heteronorm”, says Fredrik Widén, Senior Account Director at Åkestam Holst.
The campaign is collecting prices around the world. The London International Awards awarded the campaign Silver in the Microsite category. In Public Service/Social Welfare the “How Hetero”-campaign nabbed the bronze. In Sweden it was rewarded with the 50-watt award in Smart Advertising at the 100-watts ceremony - arranged by The Association of Swedish Advertisers and The Swedish Association of Communication Agencies.
