Bio Skandia rolls on thanks to car auction
Recently, the auction of a Cadillac LYRIQ ended, in favor of Bio Skandia's survival. The winning bid goes directly to the maintenance and operation of Bio Skandia, designed by architect Gunnar Asplund.
"We are incredibly happy and grateful for the fantastic response we received and everyone who got involved in bidding on the car! It feels absolutely magical! The money we have now collected will make a big difference for Bio Skandia and will be an important investment to continue develop and strengthen our cinema business going forward. I also want to take the opportunity to say congratulations to the winning bidder who has called home a fantastic car in a unique design," says Magnus Larsson, marketing manager at the Stockholm Film Festival.
Since the turn of the year, the Stockholm Film Festival is running Bio Skandia and an important next step for the cinema to survive and be restored is to raise funding so that this cultural gem can continue to be a central part of Stockholm's cultural life.
As the official automotive partner of the Stockholm Film Festival, Cadillac has generously donated a Cadillac LYRIQ that was auctioned to support restoration and operation of Bio Skandia. The all-electric car is known for its cutting-edge technology, impressive range and luxurious design. Leander Engström's famous angels from the cinema's iconic ceiling painting have been chosen to adorn the car, making it a unique work of art in its own right.
Cadillac's cinematic legacy is undeniable, with appearances in countless films. Our brand is deeply intertwined with the magic of cinema, which is why we're passionate about supporting Stockholm International Film Festival's mission to preserve Bio Skandia. Given its historical significance, it's worth investing in Bio Skandia's future," says Jean-Pierre Diernaz, Chief Marketing Officer of General Motors Europe.
When the Skandia Theater (Bio Skandia) was built in 1923, under the supervision of architect Gunnar Asplund, some of the greatest artists of the time were selected to decorate the unique interior. Among them was Leander Engström, one of the most famous and beloved Swedish painters of our time - a pioneer in the modern art scene. Today, his art plays an important role in Sweden's film and cultural history. Recently, his paintings have also become an important part of Bio Skandia's identity.
The money from the auction goes directly to the management of Bio Skandia's cultural heritage and continued renovation.
