Here they are – this years nominees for the pitch competition 1 KM FILM 2024
The pitch competition 1 KM FILM, just like the Stockholm International Film Festival, celebrates its 35th anniversary in 2024. This year, the number of applications has hit a record high, and the prize sum is larger than previous years. The winner will be awarded 400,000 SEK to complete their short film.
1 KM FILM is Sweden’s premier pitch competition for short films. Every year, promising directors present their next short film idea to an industry jury during the Stockholm Industry Days, held this year from 12 to 14th of November at Filmhuset and Bio Skandia in Stockholm.
Since its inception in 1990, the pitch competition has proven to be a reliable indicator of new talent in Swedish cinema. Previous winners include Amanda Adolfsson, Frida Kempff, Ninja Thyberg, and John Skoog. Last year, the prize went to Ville Gobi for the short film "Midsommar" (not by Ari Aster).
This year’s nominees are:
- Amin Zouiten for the project "Grand Tour"
- Emily Norling for the project "Skråbock"
- Hanna Rosén for the project "How To Make A Swedish Dragon Dance"
- Jean-Luc Mwepu & Desirée Mwepu for the project "Ultimatum"
- Lode Kuylenstierna for the project "Den Osmidige"
- Nellie Lexfors for the project "Backfire Poor Little Thing"
- Nanna Blondell for the project "Färgblind"
- Willy Fermelin for the project "Skavfötter"
“We’ve received a record number of applications of very high quality, with the eight nominees standing out a bit extra. We are also pleased to have three new partners this year, and that the prize sum has now reached 400,000 SEK,” says Beatrice Karlsson, Program Director of the Stockholm International Film Festival.
The eight nominees for 1 KM FILM will pitch their new short film ideas to the jury and industry professionals during the festival’s Industry Days. The selected talents’ previous films will also be screened during the festival on Monday, November 11, at 5:00 PM at Sture. The winner of the pitch competition will be announced at the festival’s grand award ceremony on November 15.
The total value of the 1 KM FILM prize is 400,000 SEK, which will go towards the creation of the new short film. The prize is supported by the Swedish Film Institute, Film Stockholm, Dagsljus, Tint, Ponytail, the Union for Performing Arts & Film, Independent Kostym, and Fyra K Media.
