Jane Campion to receive the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2021

The iconic New Zealand director Jane Campion is awarded the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2021. She will accept the Bronze Horse during an exclusive Face2Face conversation, live on Zoom, at the Nordic premiere of The Power of the Dog at the Skandia Theatre at 6:00 pm on Saturday, November 13.

This year’s Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to Jane Campion with the following motivation:
Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2021 is given to an unwavering director whose originality and willingness to push boundaries distinguishes her as a cinematic pioneer. Her world of images has forever etched itself onto our retinas and shaped film history through uncompromising depictions of human complexity. With her unique cinematic tone, Jane Campion’s artistic work has left an impression that will last forever.

– Jane Campion is a unique director that broke through and won the Palme d’Or during a time when it was almost impossible for women to make film. She is one of our greatest filmmakers and a role model. It’s a great honor to award her with the Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award 2021, says Git Scheynius, Festival Director at the Stockholm Film Festival.

The first woman to win the Palme d’Or in 1993, legendary film director Jane Campion’s latest work includes the critically acclaimed tv series Top of the Lake. With a 12 year break from film, she is finally back with the Western film The Power of the Dog. Charismatic rancher Phil Burbank (Benedict Cumberbatch) inspires fear and awe in those around him. When his brother brings home a new wife (Kirsten Dunst) and her son, Phil torments them until he finds himself exposed to the possibility of love.

The Nordic premiere of The Power of the Dog by Jane Campion takes place at the Skandia Theatre on Saturday, November 13 at 6:00 pm. Jane Campion will accept the Bronze Horse during an exclusive Face2Face conversation following the screening.

The Stockholm Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to a person active in film whose life's work deserves to be illuminated and honored. The prestigious prize, the 7.3-kilogram Bronshästen (Bronze Horse) – the world's heaviest film prize – is a paraphrase of the Swedish Dalecarlian horse and was created by Swedish designer Fredrik Swärd. The prize has previously been awarded great names within the film industry such as Claire Denis, Susan Sarandon, David Cronenberg, Lauren Bacall, David Lynch, Mike Leigh, Isabella Rossellini, Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola
